A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WAS QUICKLY SPREADING NORTH AROUND 25 MPH. WIND GUSTS FROM 30 TO 40 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED WITH LINE. PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN AND FREQUENT DANGEROUS ARE ALSO LIKELY.

WIND GUSTS GREATER THAN 30 MPH CAN BRING DOWN TREE LIMBS.

It has not been very severe where I live. In fact, it's perfect napping weather.

Immediate driving hazards!
This Monday afternoon series of thunder, rain and wind storms has debris scattered on various roads in the Pine Belt.
I just traveled Highway 532 from Mt. Olive to Hot Coffee and the roadway is littered with fallen trees and tree tops.
You will have to slow down and drive in either the right hand or left hand lanes on many of the highways in the area.
The immediate wind sheer front popped green and dead trees on several roads and scattered various other debris from homes onto the roadway.
30 seconds ago @ 3:27 p.m. Mississippi Public Radio on 88.1 fm went off the air, perhaps from the wind sheer?

The Wind blew down some limbs, smallish and lots of leaves. It came fast but we got lots a rain....but

The REA. like to have killed my PC. Every time it was just about rebooted, zap, zap, zap, off, everything went. And of course the PC had to reboot after each zap and a few time it was in the middle of a reboot when the Power shut off again. Got the screen that asked how I want to start up...choose NORMAL! Oh well all is well that ends well.

REA has also had a surge problem lately. I notice it by several of the lights that stay on here around the clock have burnt out the bulbs a lot more often than normal.
Power surges will get your PC or modem. Modems are more fragile than women.

Yep, and I have no doubt that a surge protector will help but I always try to get in and unplug everything if it gets bad. Knock on wood, it's been a few years now since I have had a Modem fried.

I'm plugged into a big ole ABS unit, but I also unplug from the modem as well, as you can get zapped through the cable line. I unplug the microwave and coffee maker and my washer (my beloved frontloader with stainless drum and electronic control panel Maytag that I can never afford to replace) -- in fact, I'm going to get a one-outlet surge protector for the washer. If I ever build a house, it will have a whole-house surge protector. My electric convection wall oven got its control panel fried when my power was restored after Katrina. I'm buying a whole new stove for what the oven repair would be. (oooh, do I ever owe the dinner invitations when the "my oven doesn't work" excuse goes away. :-D)

But I use too! never had anything to happen, thank the good lord and knock on wood and xxx!

I have surge protectors, but in bad lightning I unplug those. I've had it catch the surge protectors on fire twice and still get all my electronics.

Absolutely! I do unplug the computer from the wall and from the cable. I only use the surge protector as a defense against little spikes.
