"The proper function of man is to live - not to exist." -- Jack London
Too often we go through life on autopilot, going through the motions and having each day pass like the one before it.
That's fine, and comfortable, until you have gone through another year without having done anything, without having really lived life.
That's fine, until you have reached old age and look back on life with regrets.
That's fine, until you see your kids go off to college and realize that you missed their childhoods.
It's not fine. If you want to truly live life, to really experience it, to enjoy it to the fullest, instead of barely scraping by and only living a life of existence, then you need to find ways to break free from the mold and drink from life.

Some of those I'm pretty good at. Others, I'd need to think about a little.
By the way...anyone try the Blue Bunny Gelato? $1.18 for a two serving thing. Italian Chocolate Chip is not bad. :-D

Sounds nice. But realistic? Not really. I can see doing maybe 5 things on his list, but otherwise it's wishful thinking. I'm sitting here picturing my bosses face if I told them I wanted to take a laptop and work from the park. LOL! Yeah, I see them agreeing with that.

I asked and my boss agreed. I get one day to work out of the office per week.

I actually think quite a few of them are doable...the biggest part of them perhaps.
I took a mini-retirement and went back to school full-time. Had to plan for it and sell my house, but it was nice to not have to worry about the pressure of work for two years.
I'm not so sure about the facing of the fears. I've gone to the top of the highest building I could find and looked over the edge. I've walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, but I'm still terrified.
I don't volunteer enough, and I spend way too much time online.

my boss encourages us to work wherever we want so we can get the work done
if thats from the park...so be it.

Thanks for the list Aaron! I am happy to say that I am right on track for the most part... including getting away from the internet since I haven't had time be post in what seems like forever!
Hi everybody! I miss "chatting" with ya'll! Have a great day! I will try to get some good pictures of the Arctic for you... the Ocean is still frozen and most of the lakes and rivers are too, but they are thawing quickly and the wildlife is coming back in droves!!
Have a great day!
If I could add two things to that list, it would be to go fishing and to learn to play and instrument... Playing piano and being by the water are two of my favorite passtimes...

When you've drank as much excitment in life as I have, you gotta rest a little. I may have one skydive left in me.....maybe.....come my 60th b-day next year. We'll see.
I can't think of much I've missed. I've had that guy's philosophy all my life. Up to a point....what don't kill you WILL make you stronger.
You know who else skydives? Gary McMahan. He loves it. I don't even like to fly, much less jump out of the damn plane! Is that nuts, or what?:smt118

I love to fly, Dollfus - but I'm not planning on jumping out of any plane unless it is fixin' to crash! :-D

When you are in your 20's and 30's the list is easy. You do many wthout thinking. When you reach my age you tend to get sedentary and it's really easy to get into a rut and just sit around and create carbon dioxide. So the site was a hughe wake up call for me. I waste a lot of time watching TV and sitting here. I could find someone to love. I could volunteer more. Get out more. Travel more. I think of all of these. But I do none. I will change and make a difference.

I am glad the list is good for him.
I did one on #2 swim in a frozen lake. I did a mountain river and never again. Also some coves that were fed from melting mountain snow.
I disagree with some of those. Everyone is different.
If we all got off the internet, My Hattiesburg would crash. I enjoy some tv programs and some magazines.
I have had plenty of fun and enough risk taking. I need different now and am doing a different list now.
