We have an eBay store that keeps my wife quite busy. Anybody else run an eBay business?

I thought about it a few years ago, but unless it's used goods, it's hard to compete with the prices posted on eBay. I do wish I shopped there more. I'd love to be able to scan through the collectibles on a nightly basis and find a good deal, but I just never have gotten around to doing it.

oooh!! oooh!! I e-bay!!! :) Real good at it too! :smt118 I do more buying than selling, but have made some extra dough buying stuff on ebay that people didn't know they had and then re-listed it right. My mom is actually better at it than I am, more time to browse!

I spent alot of mone on E-bay. Mostly fishin' stuff. I bought alot of the older Ambassadeur reels awhile back. The old ones are getting pricey. If you can find one in mint cond with the leather case and tool for cheap then I buy it. One of these days they will be worth a small fortune.
I had to quit alot of ebayin' though cause my woman threatened to kick my butt if I didn't quit runnin' up the credit card.
Never sold anything though.

Iv'e got some old fishing reels from back in the forties & 50s still have that braided black fishin' line on 'em. I've got an old steel fishing rod too. I don't know if I could sell them, they were my granddad's, but I still like to go fish with them.

I tried to sell a bunch of Teeny Beany Babies once, but I never got a bid high enough to justify the time it would take to wrap them & take them to fedex.

I do a lot of buying on eBay. Most of the birthday and Christmas gifts I buy people come from there. My brother sells things all the time, so if I want something sold, I usually just get him to do it.

baseball cards? I think my wife spoke to you at the post office once or twice. She told me about a guy she met in line that sells baseball cards on eBay.
I got some pretty old cards, I might need to talk to you some day about their value. ;)

E-Bay. Wonderful. I'm into glass and porcelain, mainly. I bought a piece of Kinkozan (Satsuma) pottery listed in the wrong place, described as "oriental porcelain, signed, unknown mark", and shown with one little badly-taken photo. Paid less than $20.00 for it and it's valued at around $3,000.

I paid eight bucks or so for a $500 Northwood, 1930s, glass vase and about the same (under $20) for a Lalique vase.

A few years ago I stumbled onto some late 18th Century Coalport, John Rose era, Billingsley-painted porcelain, and two pieces of wonderful Derby. I bought 4 beautiful Coalport tea cups and a Derby inkwell for a song, and wouldn't part with them for less than several hundred dollars.

And finally, many e-Bay moons ago I decided to try my hand at miniature crocheted bedspreads, 1:12 scale, and sold two (each one roughly 5 inches by 8 inches). These things had hand-tied half-inch fringe - little 1" blocks crocheted together. I used tatting (close to sewing size) thread and a crochet hook with a nib about the size of a bent sewing needle. One little bedspread went for $160, I think it was, and the other for slightly over a hundred. There are grown women (and men) out there who'll pay extraordinary prices for dollhouse items. However, my eyes and patience failed to further my personal exploitation of that fact.

There are gems waiting on e-Bay, but it takes time and sleuthing around to find them. Time, primarily. Which is why I haven't made a good buy in a long while. I reckon I'll leave the selling of the "finds" to my ingrate children.

:-D

My wife has sold some of my daughter's and son's clothing since they outgrow them so fast and are in really good condition. She usually takes the money from the sales and purchase more clothing that they can wear. It's a never ending cycle. :smt103

I have bought jewelry there. My sister ordered a poster that came in a tube with no return address from Russia.

It came to my mother's in Prentiss at the post office and this was during the anthrax times. mother took it to the postmaster and they opened it right there in the lobby. Mom was being careful and it was a poster.:laugh:

I enjoy just taking an item and browsing for curiousity such as a tractor.

I know someone that bought a Jaguar car for about the tenth of a retail price and he is enjoying driving the car. Pretty.

I have bought several items on eBay. I have bought some really nice jewelry for both me & my husband. I have bought several nice broomstick skirts, collectible steins, Northwood Carnival Glass to add to my collection, books, ect. I would like to learn how to sell items on there. I have alot of very old crystal & a painting by a getleman named Wakyosai. I have a print called "The Society of Friends" that is very old. It is taken from a painting by the famous(he painted for the Queen of England) J.F.Herring, Senior. T.L.Atkinson is the name of the engraver. Both of these gentlemen lived & died during the 1800's. I need to find someone who can clean my print professionally & I need to find out what it is worth. D o any of y'all know anything about "The Society of Friends"? Herring did another painting called "Pharoah's Horses" that is famous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

I googled Society of Friends and it looks like it was formed around 1643 and is Quaker and I couldn't copy it. Google all those and see if you can find Roadhouse antiques on here.

Here's an article on deciding between part-time or full-time ebay selling.

THANKS a bunch! I've got to get about 40 cabinet knobs asap, and they're a fortune. I'll check there.
