Since movin' out of the house about 12 years ago I have alway owned a barbecue grill of some sort (what manly man doesn't have one?). Either it was gas or charcoal, but always one of the other....anyways. I have prolly cooked 8 or 9 cows since I moved out. I have been constantly modifying the way I cook steak, pork, chicken etc. over the years. I did something the other night though that was pretty neat.

I got the wife to buy one of those little boxes of steaks, maybe like 12 in a box that are vacuum sealed and frozen. The next night I fired up my 48 hamburger capacity with side burner commercial stainless steel barbecue machine complete with paper towel and tank holder. Now I got it HOT...like 500 and something degrees...I cut the frozen steaks out of the pack and tossed em' on the grate. I seered the crap out of each side and turned it on low and let em' finish cookin'. Those had to be the cheapest best little steaks I have ever cooked myself. Anyone else ever try this?

I do something similar, but I use a red hot iron skillet & finish 'em in the toaster oven. I have three grills & a smoker (if you don't have one, get a smoker), in different sizes. My favorite is one i made myself out of an old Christmas tree stand & a piece of the grill from an old grill, perfect for a meal for one.

Never tried that, but it does remind me that I need to get the tank refilled for my grill...and I need to replace the electric starter. If the grill were working, bet I wouldn't be eating so many freakin' sandwiches for dinner. :smt011

Yeah, but can you cook good armadillo? Do you know how to clean one?

huh?

:smt026

Don't you roast those on the half-shell?:p

Rare meat eater huh? That's pretty unusual to find a lady that likes a rare steak.

Amandah, you sound just like my sister. Daddy never could get it rare enough for her, so finally one time he let each side cook just long enough to change color a little, still cold in the middle. He thought she'd say it was too rare. Nope, just perfect! :)

LOL! I don't eat rare steaks. The above-comments were compliments of Butterball who kidnapped my computer while I was on the phone with the bossman. Now I'll have to go through all my "recent" posts to see what I said.

I won't even sit at the same table with you eating raw meat. I like it pink on the inside.:smt118

Perfect. I don't mind a warm red center if it's small.

Does anyone marinate your steak before grilling it?

I used to have a recipe called Dad's Cowboy Steak. You cooked the steak in butter in a black skillet. It was delicious!

I find that Adolph's meat tenderizer, used sparingly, and fork/tenderize the crap out of it, then let is marinate in a little beer on both sides for about 30 min. works good. Best method for this is charcoal though. I have a tough time cookin' a thawed steak with a gas grill.

Depending on the cut of meat, I like some olive oil, a little worcestershire sauce, some infused vinegar, garlic, coarse salt, fresh peppercorns.

That's too fancy for me for a steak. I like to be plain with my steak. Jus' a little beer and Adolph's....maybe some Chacheree's every now and then.

Has anyone ever burned the controls of a gas grill and melted them and even almost the line running to the gas tank.?? Boyfriend was cooking something on an old grill at his parent and left it going to the store. Came back to that. He was used to a plain old grill.

Was something wrong with the grill"??????

He thought they were lucky that it didn't blow up Metarie and the house.

Sounds like it had a bad regulator or a leak of some kind.

Lite beer or beer and any brand.? (for the marinating) What kind of taste that give it?

Usually lite. I don't buy alot of the high-dollar imported stuff. I would rather drink that than cook with it. But it doesn't change the taste much.
I put it on there mostly because of the fizz. It seems to get the tenderizer down in the meat better. Say if your steak in 1 inch thick. I tenderize with Adolph's(sparingly or it will be too salty), pour a little beer in the dish, lay the steak in their and fill it have way up the steak (1/2") deep if your steak is an inch thick. Let it set for 30 minutes and flip it over to the other side for 30 minutes. Then I grill it.

So I took a pack of Corner Market New York strips out tha' deep freeze last evening. I fired up my 47 hamburger capacity super stainless steel commercial grill with tank and paper towel holder and side burner along with a neat little rack/shelf storage thingy to put stuff in on the other side and storage underneath....and got the temp up to 450 and tossed em' on!! *hisss....fire....hisssss......* Smells so good! let the blood start comin to the top. Flipped em', let the blood come to the top. Flipped em' again. Turned down the heat to 250 and let em' get a nice dark color and took em' off. Talk about juciy!!!!!!! yeee haaa....! Man I am glad it's almost lunch! Lite pink center and it sho' was good. Didn't even make any side dishes. Just Steak.
Me and the youngun' even ate out in the shop. He sat on the 4 wheeler backwards and eat his! Just had to wash the tongs, 2 forks and a knife. Threw the paper plate away. Just don't get any simpler than that!

This might be what I have been doing wrong. I don't think I have: 1. gotten the grill hot enough 2. Turned it down

Mine don't turn out like I like, thanks Fish!

I have never been able to cook a good steak. Think I will try this but I don't have a grill. Will it work on the George Forman?

What I enjoy is having the butcher cut me a filet about 2" thick. Grill it to medium rare then pour a bottle of ketchup on it and dig in. YUM.. Heh heh, gag, heh.

My youngun likes "chetch-upped" as he says it, on his steaks. Mine just depends on how bland it is, or how bad I screw it up!

Bait - I'm just curious...your capacity dropped by one burger from a few days ago. Is there something we should watch out for on that super grill. Of course, I'm hooked on all the gadgets that come with it so I could give up a space or two. :-D

By the way, thanks for all the cooking advice...I'll have to fire the grill up this weekend when I get back from up here in Philly. I remember those little burgers mentioned in your first post but have never found them since moving from the 'Burg. Maybe I can pick some up when I come to town in a few weeks for my folks' 50th anniversary. Thanks again!

I added a camera too it so I wouldn't have to lift up the lid. Took the place of the xtra burger's slot........man, if I could get my hands on a real mini-cam I would be back up to 48. Good detective work though. You will get there one day such as I will.
Let the Beef Grill!
