Ok guys (and more importantly gals), summer is officially here. I was just sitting here thinking about what all I want to do this summer, so I thought it would be real interesting to hear what everybody else has planned. Here are a few of my plans.
1) Hang out with old friends more
2) Attend cookouts - very often
3) go camping a lot - nothing beats the stars, a big fire, and a cold beer
4) ride in the jeep more nights than not
5) remember that I am not an old man yet, and I shouldnt act like one
I am sure there will be more to come. Something about these warm nights makes summers so great. This is going to be a good one. I can feel it. :smt118

Where do you ride bikes at? I bought a nice Gary Fisher bike a few years ago and went to the mountains a few times. I tried to ride it on the rails to trails a few times. The tires are just too big for rails to trails. Wore me out. I remember thinking, was I really in better shape at 10 years old than I am now? I never remember being tired, and we would ride bikes everywhere.

I ride on the Trace. I hear you about the better-shape-at-10 thing. Two summers ago, I took my bike home to MO with me and was going to ride from my friend's in Aurora to the Grand-Sner's in Billings (about 14 miles). Decided real fast that wasn't going to happen. (About saw my life flash before my eyes when I looked down at the speedo and realized I was doing 32 mph...on a bike, going downhill...yet I rode those hills and those roads all the time when I was kid. WTF?)
1- Loose about 3 pounds around my belly button.
2- Finish rebooting my home office.
3- Finish some carpenter projects / upgrades inside.
4- Bike the Natchez Trace again. End point is not important but start in Natchez.
5- Bicycle at least part of The Long Leaf Trace.
6- Complete the drawings for some outside home projects.
7- Spend more time in Jackson.
8- Do some quality photo work.
9- Some automotive fun with my toys.
10- Always another fencing project.
11- Spend more after dark coffee shop time with friends.
12- Reinstall outside speakers at home.
13- Locate a good mosaic tile somebody and lay some plans out.
14- Spend more time with older family members.
15- Devote more volunteer landscaping time in my community.
16- Take more time to get out.
17- Spend more time in New Orleans.
18- Listen more, say less ...

Don't let that bike just sit there, unridden. What you need to do is put some nice slicks on there. Makes a WORLD of difference. Bring it by Moore's Bike shop and get them on there. Mr. Moore offers a money back guarnatee on them if you don't like them.
Or, you can even buy you a nice hybrid or road bike to hit the paved portion of the world. No sense in letting a perfectly great frame go to waste, though. Slap some slicks on that bike and hit the Longleaf Trace!

I did it for the first 13 years of my life, and I did it in the summer of 05 for about 15 days...

I wonder if you can get another spoke with slicks on it? I would like to have a pair of slicks and my off road tires for it. I still want to take it to the mountains and go on the nature trails. I like going through the small creeks, etc. Last time, I decided I was pro enough to navigate it down a steep embankment. I ate gavel for about 20 feet or so. Funny how God has a way of humbling the over-confident!

1. Watch my favorite ML Baseball team play at different places. I've already seen them play in Cincinnati, but would like to make it to St. Louis and Chicago and maybe Atlanta by the end of the season. (I've already been to Atlanta and Wrigley Field, but I want to go back!)
2. Get on a fitness routine.
3. Explore my new hometown. There are tons of fun things to do here!
4. Teach my son all of his sight words so he is really ready for kindergarten.
5. Go through my closet and get rid of all the extra clothes/shoes I have that I no longer need or wear.

My goal for the summer is to get a job. Got one iron in the fire right now.
Computer Dude, you can get a small room-size a/c for around $100. At least you can get your bedroom cool and be able to sleep.

Drink some cold beers.
Figure out how to 'defy' gravity again.
Start working on plan to end world climate changes, hunger, HIV/AIDS, and why no REALLY GOOD concerts come to Hattiesburg.
Open a bar downtown for some REALLY GOOD local bands to play, and make a lot of money.
Fix that pesky Israeli - Palestinian issue.
Improve gas economy until I can make cars that run WELL on water. In no particular order.

You mean another wheel set with the slicks on there? Sure, but it's gonna cost you more. If you can change a tube in your tires, then it's just as easy to change a tire in them.
You might just want to come in and take a look at the Giant line of hybrids or even a road bike. I recently bought a Cypress DX, put some smaller width tires on it, and it's fantastic. That's going from a Schwinn Mtn bike with slicks on it. I can testify to the easy of pedaling on knobbies vs. slicks. No comparison.
But since you want to keep the Fisher for offroad, might as well drop a few hundred more on a dedicated asphalt bike! You'll be happy with the higher gearing than your Fisher has.
