Today's fashion retro is going 60ish. Described as “urban hippie"
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/21/fashion/21HIPPIE.html
I was born in the 50's, a kid/teen of the 60's and I never saw JOPLIN wear anything like that. She wore layers and she flowed in her flamboyant style. She was not one of the beautiful people like Grace Slick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Slick), but for just one summer of love, www.summeroflove.org (http://www.summeroflove.org/) she was where it was at. She was bigger than life. Janis was a true hippie. Bigger than life at least bigger than my small little world in ohlo!

Remember wood stock in 1969? Do any of you remember when it was suppose to come to some field in the Ohlo community. The music died October 4, 1970 just when I was getting into Joplin. I still play her music....today and my 5 year old grand really digs her sound. My daughter however does not.
Anyways watching Today's fashion retro on NBC's "today show" made me get...all trippy, man! Peace Love and Happiness! :rainbow: make :grouplove: Love not :smt067war!
Loved ya! Pearl :icon32:

Well, I wasn't born until 1978, but I came to appreciate Janis Joplin during my pot smoking teenage days. My first year in college, I found one of her records in a hippie shop, and that got me into collecting old records.

I'll stick to my 80's and current music! :)
I was all of 11 in '69. I've always enjoyed her music and would take that over 80s or current music any day. :)

I wasn't alive during Joplin's time, but I love her sound....Much like Mac, the only good thing that came out of my brief but intense weed smoking phase was my appreciation for JJ, Hendrix, and Jerry Garcia....
bigjohn....could you re-post that Kris Kristofferson youtube....I can't remember where it is (bad part of the weed smokin phase)! I was thinkin' about the other day....One of the best post ever on here...

eyescene, the one that was rumored to be happening near Oloh did come off later that year on a big farm next to a big river, near Baton Rouge, LA. It was called "Celebration of Life". I went to it. Whew! What a trip. I'll never forget it.....the stories I could tell :)
Now...THAT...is something I'd like to sit down with a cold beer or twelve and listen to....I had a great time in the 90's, but I think the 60's would have been fun...

Can't say much for his voice but the kid can write some poetry. Doesn't get any better than "Sunday Morning Coming Down." Takes a free spirit to give up the education and brains he had for a shot in entertainment.

My family was strict Christians and I wasn't allowed to listen to Janis or any rock-n-roll music for that matter. So I did it behind my parents back, at my friends houses. I think her rebellion made her that much more enticing to me. Cause everything was sin.
But I never smoked pot, did drugs or booze till after I was grown and out of my parents house. And only then to see what all the hoo raa was a about.
My first time, I can tell you, was the weirdest trip, I NEVER want to take again. My x-druggie friends say it must have been laced with something. I dunno but the effects lasted for 3 days.............
Well Groovy Friends....I gotta go, got plans tonight....the cats away and eye mouse wants to play. eek!
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:: laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::l augh::laugh:
OK before you all think bad bad eyescence. I bought meself, a burger, chocolate candy, a kid movie called "Bridge to Terabithia". I wont be waiting on no one, but meself!!! no siree not tonight. That's all the fun I'm gonna get! @ 50 fun is so, less energetic!:laugh::laugh:
Peace out and remember, Far Out friends MAKE LOVE NOT WAR!

I wasn't born till '66, but the first song I learned all the lyrics to was "Jeremiah was a bullfrog", and I was at the last concert the dead played at Deer Creek Ampitheatre in Indiana (while Jerry was alive) That music was magic. Young'uns today I don't think understand what it is to listen to music that's not only good, but means something.

I've always thought Janis Joplin was HOT, and Sean Mullins did a decent cover of Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down.

I was at a Dead show one time & my buddy started seeing spirits dancing on stage with the band.
How about Kris Kristofferson doing "Why Me, Lord?" ? I searched youtube but didn't find a video of it.

That's probably why God didn't let me ever go to a Dead concert.....

I like Tim Booty Wilson and the Booty Caller band wit those groovin sounds of the 70's.
Like Leadbelly too (Black Betty)... He's oldschool though... dead too... I think anyway that is WAY OUTSIDE my age group.
