For whatever reason (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito#Mosquitoes_and_humans), I attract mosquitoes and get munched fast. In fact, I get laughed at because I have a supply of "Off (http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&client=pub-1098126208068792&cof=FORID%3A1%3BAH%3Aleft%3BCX%3ADumb%2520Little%2 520Man%3BL%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fi7.photobucket.com%2Falb ums%2Fy281%2Firw2003%2Fdlmsmall.gif%3BLH%3A39%3BLP %3A1%3BGFNT%3A%23666666%3BDIV%3A%23cccccc%3B&q=%22off%22&btnG=Search&cx=%21004370903687682073145%3Abzb4e7jofs4)" in my car, bike pouch, and in all of the kid's strollers.

Stopping mosquitoes entirely isn't possible but you can surely decrease how many are buzzing around your house and backyard. Here are a handful of tips from a couple of DLM friends, TipNut (http://tipnut.com/) and Thrifty Mommy (http://www.thriftymommy.com/). There are several more on each of their sites.

Plant mosquito deterring plants around your yard such as citronella, marigolds, basil, lavender, and catnip.
Make sure roof gutters, bird baths, sandboxes, and old tires drain properly to prevent standing water.
Vanilla Extract: A few different recommendations for this one, each contradicting the other. Some say to dab Vanilla Extract on your pulse points, others say to rub it all over your skin & dab your clothes. Some say the cheap stuff is what you have to use, others say the real, pure Vanilla is the only thing that will work. Some say to apply it full strength, others say you can dilute it with water and spray it on. Play around with Vanilla to see what gives you best results–there are plenty of believers for this one as a mosquito deterrent so I think there’s something to it.

Overdose on Vitamin B. Won't hurt you. Your body gets rid of the excess it cannot use through the pores in your skin. No one can smell it but the mosquitoes and they hate the smell.

This won't work for mosquitoes, but for red bugs (No see ems) and ticks, before you go into an area where you may et red bugs etc. eat a teaspoon of cream of tartar. It sweats out through you skin & deters the vermin.

I heard that eating bananas would make you more attractive to skeeters and NO I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP. I really heard it, not really sure why but something in bananas makes you more tasty to the bloodsucking critters.

Male mosquitoes don't take bloodmeals. The males feed off plant nectar. It is the females that take the blood meals. Kinda ironic I think that the bloodsuckers are female.

Jus kidding ladies.
