I'm still alive. I've not yet been eaten by a bear, though, I was eyeballed by one of those little ground squirrels. I've seen many pronghorn, tried to catch one, they run too damn fast. I've seen some mule deer, they're bigger than our whitetails. I've also seen some elk and buffalo.

Make note, don't piss off a buffalo, they're big and can stomp you in the ground. The air is freakin' thin at 12000 ft. We made it up Independence Pass on the way to Aspen, couldn't hardly breathe, send oxygen asap, please. Aspen people looked at us funny, someone asked me what country Mississippi was in, I told them to take their Gucci and Talbots stores and to cram them. We looked out of place in Aspen, if you've been there, you know what I mean.

The trout fishing has been okay, we've caught three, two rainbow and one lake trout. Seen several, hard to get them to bite. Gotta try other fly's.

The people here seem nice, they all tell me they know I ain't from here, I don't know how they know that just by talking to me, I am speaking English, after all.

Beer is good here, several breweries, I've already forgotten their names. Can't find grits, peas and cornbread, or sweet tea, they all look at me funny when I ask for it.

I saw snow, and it's still there, above 10,000 ft on the mountains, really neat, don't see that too often. I did manage to piss off some people when I started talking about the Braves and dis'ing the Rockies!!! Hah! They don't want to mess with a redneck!

We visited Billy the Kids gravesite in New Mexico on the way here, it was hot. Anyway, I'm running outta breathe, need oxygen, send asap. I holler when I get back to Mississip on Sunday. Keep it real!

Sounds like a ball! Be careful on the way home and enjoy that nice cool air while you can.

Do you find the mountain women look old before their time? I've always heard it was because their humidity level is so low.

According to a best friend's husband, mule deer are much harder to hunt too. The last two or three years now, he and his dad have actually gotten deer tags in the lottery system, but in two weeks of hunting each time, they have yet to even barely see a deer, much less get a shot.

I keep telling him to come to MS during deer season. If he brings his wife for a visit, I'm sure I can find someone to go hunting with him. :smt118

The air is dry here, my arms are 'chalky'. The women here do look a little older than their age. The mule deer I've seen so far just stand there and look at me, like their stupid or something. We threw a rock at one, almost hit him.

Hahh!! That happened to my son in Los Angeles. He asked for "unsweetened tea" and the waiter just looked at him, and finally said, "As opposed to what?"

Sounds like you're having more fun than we are!

Put the fly-rod down rookie and get you a rooster tail or a mepp's in-line. If they'll let you use bait go get you some night crawlers or some red worms. 4 lb. test line and a 1/32 oz. split shot with a #24 hook and drift it by those pockets.
P.S. Take some pics....I need proof of those elusive trout.

Okay, I'm back in ol' Mississip now. We saw plenty of pronghorn, mule deer, elk, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, bighorn rams, etc. The water temp was like 39 degrees at one of the streams we fished, so waders were a necessity. The air was cool and crisp, yet thin at higher altitudes.

Aspen can kiss my ass. Leadville was neat, we visited the mining museum, miners rock! Beuna Vista was a neat little town, Ark Anglers supplied us with flies and gave us good pointers on where to fish. Twin Lakes was beautiful, can't describe it any other way. I'll try to add pics to my photo log later. Denver was neat, as was Colorado Springs.

I honestly have to say, crossing the southern great plains in northwest Texas and into New Mexico was just about a life changing event. I mean, there was hardly no trees!! You just have to experience it. We pulled over at one spot and it was nothing from one horizon to another, just grass and pronghorns. No people, no houses, no poles, nothing but you and God! No NOISE, it was quiet, except for the gentle breeze. The rocky mtns were neat, but I like my smokies better.
