QM, we went to the Neshoba County Fair last year for the first time. It's an event all Mississippians should try to attend at least once.

You're right about the politicians...they will be out in full force this year, with the candidates for statewide offices speaking at Founders Square on Wednesday and Thursday (July 25 and 26).

(For those who might be interested, Shawn O'Hara is scheduled to speak at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. He is listed as a candidate for state treasurer.)

We are thinking about going this year for the flea market, which will be on Saturday, July 21. If anyone has ever been to the Fair flea market, I'd appreciate knowing if it's a flea market similar to Canton, with a bit of variety, or if it's primarily country arts and crafts.

I've never been either, and I'm thinking about going this year simply because I don't know how many more summers I'll be in MS.

It's about a two-hour drive north of Hattiesburg. You can take I-59 to Laurel, then take Highway 15 north through Bay Springs, Newton, Decatur, and Union, then take Highway 21 south once you get to Philadelphia.

If you prefer four-lanes, take I-59 to Meridian, then take Highway 19 north to Philadelphia. The last 23 miles are two-lane, but it's not too bad.

If you go, dress appropriately for the heat and wear comfortable shoes.

Unless it rains, it will be dusty, too.
