I make special treats for my dogs this one sounds really healthy and tasty for them.

Liver Bow-Wows
2 lbs chicken livers
2 C corn meal
2 C wheat germ
2 eggs
2 1/2 tsp. granulated garlic (not salt)
1/2 C dried parsley
Liquefy livers in food processor, pour into mixing bowl and add other ingredients. Mix until smooth like a brownie batter. Spread on a cookie sheet (1/2 sheet cake size) until it's evenly spread about 1/3 inch thick. Bake at 350 F for about 35 minutes. When cool cut into squares, or whatever shapes you prefer. I keep them in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator.

eyescene, how long do they usually last without getting moldy etc.? BooBoo doesn't eat a whole lot and I wonder if they would go bad before she could eat them all up? Can they be frozen and defrosted later? Thanks!

Corn meal? That's difficult for a dog to digest and shouldn't be in any food they eat.

:smt102 Dunno about that aaron. I always have fed my dogs cornbread and they are the healthiest things around. I think alot of the commercial dog foods has corn meal in them. I would mix the cornbread with meats I would cook for them, add a little broth or gravey, chopped up veggies and they would chow down... they never seemed to have a problem digesting their foods.

You know I haven't made these just yet. I just found it this AM. I would think they could be frozen as it looks like they make a lot!!!

As far as freezing???? I bet you could. I do make another treat that you have to freeze cause of the raw meat. I'll see if I can find the recipe later and post it here. But that one, I feed to them frozen. It slows down the eating time...and its coldness soothes their gum/teething.

Corn meal? That's difficult for a dog to digest and shouldn't be in any food they eat. Aaron I just noticed that, that is a lot of cornmeal is'nt it?. However for arguments sake, that is whats in the dog food we buy....Now saying that I think I would substitute oatmeal for the cornmeal. I would think the cornmeal would get into the folds of the gut and not be healthy. Thanks!

Actually, that's in dog food because it's corn is a cheap ingredient to put in. But if you buy the upper end dog food, they actually state on the bag that they do not contain corn. I use Nutro Ultra and it does not, but I've found a list before of about 25 different brands that do not. Nutro Ultra is just one of the very few I can find in Petsmart that do not, so I don't have to worry about ordering. You definitely do not want it in the first 3 ingredients on the list.
