My elderly neighbor brought me a big bucket of maters. They were real ripe so I had to put most of them in the freezer so I didn't loose them. Kept out enough to make us another mater pie Tuesday, this time I'm gonna add some bacon and see how good it will taste.

You can freeze maters?

I'm learning all sorts of useful things from you guys.

Speaking of mater pie, we tried that Paula Deen recipe, and its pretty tasty. We were thinking of trying sour cream instead of mayonaise next time. Has anyone tried that?

Dat a girl! I'm gonna add some crumbled up bacon to my next one, too. That's a mighty nice neighbor, too. Did you give him some eggs and milk? ;)

No milk to share today, calves are still need the milk. And I gave a few a dozen to Mr N last week...so not this time.

We all, around here share and share alike. Hubby is so in demand this summer, we didn't even plant peppers :smt103 But we haven't needed to buy and fresh veg's at all.

Hey also our chicks are free ranging again  I do believe the fox that got that got ran over was THE one haunting us.

Oh it is so easy....get a pot to boiling real fast. Drop the maters in the pot....I leave them in till the skins start to peel away from the meat. next remove the skins....put into a pot....I mash mine up.....than scoop into freezer bags.....and freeze. I just eyeball every thing.

It's the same as canned crushed tomatoes, except frozen. Makes wonderful tomato gravy!
