My son will be gambling in Gulfport first of the week. He's asked me for help in suggesting three things: 1.Best Fresh Seafood Restaurant on the coast. 2. Best PoBoy on the coast 3. Best Cajun food on the coast.
He'll travel from Gautier to Bay St. Louis if it's good. Can anybody help? Thanks

Well, if he'll go to Pascagoula (right next to Gautier) Bozo's seafood has a mean ass shrimp or oyster po-boy.

O'Neals has the best shrimp poboy.

Sorry Dollfus...there are so many places no longer on the coast that I would hate to make any suggestions. We come to the coast and go to the Casinos for the buffets with seafood. Now, if he wants to go someplace good for something sweet - go to Mary Mahonneys. It's close to the Beau Rivage on Hwy. 90.

mary mahoney's is great....but it's a lil on the expensive side, so be prepared. last time i ate there a chicken breast with angelhair pasta and greenbeans and salad, rolls and tea was almost $30.

It's obvious wbill you haven't eaten a Bozo's po-boy....That's true. What makes Bozo's better? I like O'Neal's because there's about a pound of shrimp on there and they fall out all over the place. You can make a meal just from the shrimp that fall out of the poboy. Plus, it tastes really good.

A little further along, Captain Humble's in Slidell had the best po-boy's. They even won "Best of New Orleans" despite not being in the city. They were that good. Sadly, Katrina damaged the building they were in and last I heard it had not re-opened. If anyone knows different, it's worth the trip.

There's still a Lil' Ray's on Courthouse Rd. in Gulfport....bout a mile off US 90....they have the best po-boys....There is a McElroy's in Ocean Springs that is my favorite seafood....Used to be in Biloxi, but got blown away by storm....IP buffet is pretty dang good too....

I'd say go to The Reef in Waveland, but it might not be there anymore.
It was a genuine hole in the wall, but it had the best seafood around.

fotno, I was down there a couple of weeks ago and The Reef hasn't opened yet. HOWEVER, Dollfus, tell him to go to Ricky's...it is on Hwy 90 in the Bay...(used to be down near the beach but it got blown away) It is now in the Zupardo's shopping center...caty corner across from what used to be Coast Electric....(now City Hall of BSL) He can get most any kind of food he wants and it is MORE than enuf and it is good....I especially like the dish with eggplant covered in crab, shrimp and crawfish tails with a cheese sauce! Sorry can't think of the name of it....it is to die for! I think it may even be an appetiser but it is huge...combined with a small green salad and the home baked bread they serve you will be stuffed!

They have another one similar but it has a red sauce on it..good but the other is my absolute favorite...po-boys that are unreal....if he gets a large, unless he is a HUGE eater it will probably be too much for one person. Tell him to have a safe trip and to enjoy! Lil Rays in the Bay was probably one of the best of their restaurants but to me, (I did not like any of the other Lil Rays sites) still not as good as Ricky's....I am not for sure if Mr. Kidd opened it back up either.

Another good place for is called C & B Restaurant & Bar...it is on Sears Ave. in Waveland...it looks like a hole in the wall but the food is good...Ricky's is the all time best though!!!! When I was down there working, the two Waveland judges would take us, (the court clerk and me) to the four or five restaurants every Thursday to eat....our favorites were Rickys, The Reef and C & B.

Dollfus, I used to go to Tiki House over in Pascagoula before Katrina.

Good atmosphere and seafood restaraunt.was on the water- a bay or something. Severa

I have also eaten at McCelroy's on the oceanfront--Seafood.

LilRays and I have heard my relatives rave about O"neals. POBOYS.

I would probably ask some locals for the cajun. They usually know the latest.

The Tiki Restaurant is actually in Gautier on the Mary Walker Bayou, not in Pascagoula, a good restaurant with typical gulf coast fare, though a little on the pricey side, a nice rest. to visit it's built on pilings in the Mary Walker Marina, you get to the rest. by crossing a miniature drawbridge. Mary Mahoney's great restaurant, even more on the pricey side, but honestly the food is worth it. Plus I like the bar. In Gautier Huck Fin's Just off Hwy 90 near the Tiki on the Pascagoula river, Great burgers & calamari good atmosphere (if you're a sailor) pretty waitresses, inexpensive prices & large portions, You will NOT leave hungry. But, if you're lookin' for a good meal cheap check out Jerry Lee's Grocery Store on Hwy 90 in Gautier, It's been a few years since I been there, but for 3.99 you can get a damn good blue plate special at their deli. If you're going as far as Bay St Louis stop at Vrazel's, my personal favorite on the coast. Great food reasonable prices, and a guy playin' piano..........what more could you want?

There's a little place called Rebel Dip on Hwy 49 just as you enter Gulfport (I believe it's near O'Neal Rd). They have really good ham and cheese poboys and other types of poboys. I haven't eaten there in a while but the bread they use is really good. Also if he wants steak and shrimp then he might want to consider Captain Al's on Lorraine Rd. I ate there a couple of times and it was delicious. Google it if you want directions.

Both good calls on Rebel Dip and Captain Al's.....me and the wife eat with the Captain a lot.....Don't get to Rebel Dip much, but it's a great burger too.....

Agreed. Lil' Ray's on Courthouse Road in Gulfport is really good. We love their oyster po-boys and their fried dill pickles/artichoke hearts appetizer is delicious.

As ES said, it's about a mile north of Highway 90, on the right side of the road at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Perry Street.

One caveat about Lil' Ray's on Courthouse - check the hours of operation - they are open for lunch but during the week they close at something like 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon. Friday and Saturday they are open for lunch and dinner.

Dang. You gotta spend a lot of time in Gautier to know about Jerry Lees. Katrina took The Tiki out, but Huck's Cove has been going for a while.

The Blow Fly Inn (http://www.mylocalhotspots.com/minipage/skin2/index.php?CompanyID=446&GroupID=&PID=887&EventID=) will be reopening at its former location off Pass Road soon. Since Katrina, the restaurant has been operating out of a dining facility at a hotel on Highway 49. We had lunch there a couple of months ago and were told their lease was up on that place and they planned to be back on the bayou by October (I think).

I highly recommend the bread pudding for dessert. It is topped with cinnamon ice cream and crushed pralines. :smt023
