Used to be chief weatherman for WHLT when they had local broadcast. He always reminded me of a bad B-movie actor. Or, kind of like Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Can't believe they brought him back here to WDAM.

Why can't WDAM keep a Weatherman??? Is it like a jinx or something? We need a good weather here in the Pine Belt and they can't get one and keep one jeeezzz!

I think they are having problems with keeping folks on their weekend editions. Dean Wade was on their not too long ago.

If you look on their website, seems they are having trouble keeping people for alot of different jobs...they have a bunch of jobs listed...I have to wonder why they have such a big turnover...other than pay of course..

When Rex worked at WHLT, him and his boyfriend would always come by after work for a few spicy chicken sandwiches, if memory serves correctly... He's a nice guy off screen.

me too.
I catch Jackson like I do Hattiesburg. That Tony Mastro just pisses me off. All his words seem to run together and he just rambles on. Jim Gibbons come back!
My favorite is Barbi Basset in Jackson. And besides that she looks like an old gf of mine also from Jackson, HOT!!!

He hasn't changed that much.. Maybe a little thinner. I guess the Kim chick is leaving... Dean Wade must be really really part time.. I wonder what the pay is?

IMO it is entertaining to watch any of the newscast! They are ALL a bunch of morans! The only semi-professional is Randy Swan...I much prefer to watch WLOX... I "really" miss the news people from N.O.! THEY were professionals!

I flipped on the late news this weekend to see if ANYTHING really happened around the Pinebelt (other than the Amber alert they opened and closed with) and, there, to my surprise was Rex.... I quickly filled in amandah as to who he was and the memories he brought back.... duh, not about him but about his dad who was a city policeman and out nemesis as teenagers growing up in Columbia (we called him 'Jake the Snake' because he had a habit of putting a lid on our weekend carousing :) ) - Never have met Rex and probably won't since I don't run in his circles (thank you)........

LOL... Actually I always preferred the spicy chicken strip meal. Rex was the one that always ordered the sandwich.
I should point out that I have known Rex for 9 years. We met when I moved to Hattiesburg for an engineering job at WHLT. We became good friends, shared a house on 22nd Ave and ate out a lot... as pointed out.
To all wondering why Rex is back on WDAM. I believe Randy Swan contacted him with a job. Rex has been living out of town for a while so I know he is looking forward to being closer to his family. Rex actually has worked at WDAM way before WHLT and so he and Randy are friends on some level. As it was pointed out, WDAM is a stepping stone with a revolving door. Getting Rex to do weather is a good move on their part simply because of his popularity and it will give the station the appearance of talent longevity. He has plenty of fans and plenty of people don't like him. That's ok because there is no such thing as bad publicity. I can personally attest that he has been recognized from WHLT from as far away as New Orleans and that was just 2 weeks before Katrina... 4 years after WHLT laid us off.

Rex is several years older than me, we went to high school together. He is an O.K. guy.
I haven't been able to see him on WDAM since he has been back, but I'm sure he does as well as everyone else has in the past.

I actually had an accidental sort of lunch with Tony Mastro and his wife back when he was at WDAM. His real last name is excessively long . . . something like Mastrantoniostefanofrancescopizzaro or some similar absurd mouthful.
They came from . . . Boston maybe? . . . and he had to work to avoid/lose the local accent. I remember his example to this day, with him taking the statement "Go park the car at Harvard Yard" and rendering it as "Go pahhk the cahh at Hahhvahhd Yahhd." I was young enough to find that hysterical.
Great guy.
