Have you every had that funny feeling that a trip just wasn't going to go well? I had that feelin' yesterday. I was right.
A buddy of mine called Saturday afternoon. He had just finished puttin' a new waterpump in his Yamaha and said he wanted to run it for a little while Sunday. We made a plan to meet up about 3'oclock Sunday evenin' for a little river cruisin. Well, I had jr. with me so it was the three of us. It was hot outside! We hooked the boat up to the fourwheeler and took off down the little dirt road to the boatramp in Mahned. Now this is prolly one of the worst boat ramps in the world. Launchin' ain't that bad, but pullin' out gets tricky. Anyways we get the boat launched and start cruisin' up the river. Jr. and I are makin' a few cast here and there not really givin' a hoot and just sorta chillin' out. Then the motor starts actin' up. Spittin' and sputterin' wouldn't idle....typical carburetor crap. Then my buddy's cell phone starts ringin' off the hook. People are startin' to pile up at the camp out of nowhere and he starts feelin' a little guilty about it so I just say let's go back, it was really hot anyway. So we cruise down to the camp and scale up the Mt. Everest bluff (that took any energy that I had left out of me). Me and jr. cool off with the water hose for a little while and I call the wife and tell here to come pick us up.
The crowd was gettin' a little wild with all the beers and well, it just wasn't a good environment to have jr. in.
So I go ahead and tell my buddy that we need to get the boat loaded up cuz' the wife was comin' to get me. This is where everything went South.
We get down to the boat ramp and start tryin' to load up the boat. Unknown to me the trailer ball is a 1-7/8" and the the boat trailer hitch is 2"..........Welllllllll...it came of once, and we were able to get it hitched back up. The second time though was all together different. I was havin' to hold the brake on the 4-wheeler and stand on the trailer so it wouldn't come off of the hitch. This is not done very easily and well 600 pounds of boat and 275 pounds of person and you get an airborne 275 redneck.....Yes, it popped off again(and this time with some authority). I think I may have cut a back flip, I just don't know. It all happened so fast. I awoke to a face full of 4-wheeler and jr. askin' if I was allright. I wasn't! After my buddy got the 4 wheeler off of me (to hell with the boat by this time). I told jr. to run back to the camp (at least 1/4 of mile ) and get Mr. Mike to bring his truck (3/4 ton 4 x 4) I had had it with this mess. They were back before I knew it. I never knew my kid could run that fast, he was a little trooper!
I guess it scared him because he seen all the blood that was comin' from my left knee. Yep, my left knee is busted wide open. I can't even hardly bend the SOB. I got about 10 dad-gum butterfly strips on it. I also need to mention that my wife found great joy in cleaning out the gash. As I sat and reeled in pain she just smiled and said "Oh, I am sorry. Did that hurt?". I felt like kickin' her, but I couldn't.:smt118
We eventually got the boat out. I will leave out the rest of the details. It's safe to say I am out of commision for a little while....well, especially at that ramp. It just goes to show that when you got that gut feelin' you may want to reconsider. I wish I would have.
Let's hope your next trip will be better that my last one!
