Yeah...I got a shirt and I'm not afraid to wear it. :smt118
Let us know if you need us to go knock on doors, or put together refreshments for the legions of Halo infantry or whatever.
Thanks Fuzzie, I had family and friends out helping me man the polls yesterday. The beverage selection for the day was ice cold water....it was shonuff hot out there but everybody did a great job. I may be a little understaffed come Aug 28th, the kids will be back in school so I'll lose about 3 poll helpers (hint hint hint). Pathfinder showed up after work and helped me at the Sunrise Community Center, we had fun and even got to wave at PI, I just wish he'd waved back with all his fingers.
WE ALL have a lot of work to do- not only to help you out but amacker as well.....well amacker for me at least- the 2 of you are the best lamar and forest has-
Thanks Carguy but there's plenty more where we came from.
Congratulations NoHalo for a very good showing yesterday! And best of luck in a few weeks!
Thanks QM, I'm gonna need it...woohoo!!
No-Halo, way to go on making the run-off. You have to remember that Hill has run for this office, what? At least twice before? He had a lot of built-in name recognition, but now you are in position to win. The turn-out will be lower next time around, so your committed legions of fans and admirers will be sure to go to the polls and put you over the top!
This will actually be his 4th time to run PI, we spoke to each other a few times yesterday and had a good conversation. You're right about the turnout, the 104 run-off will help pull some more out hopefully. I had numerous calls at home today from people letting me know they'd be there on the 28th. :woohoo:

Good morning all, I’m not altogether sure where this post should be (there no longer being a D 104 thread) so I will post here and in the "other pine belt races" thread.
In the hotly contested race for President in 1960, John Wayne (a great American and a die hard Republican) traveled the country encouraging people to vote for Richard Nixon. When JFK won, a reporter asked the Duke what he thought about the outcome. He said "I didn’t vote for him, but he’s my President and I hope he does a good job." As usual, we could learn a lot from an old cowboy. In today’s red and blue divided America, we often forget that when the returns are in we are all once again in the same boat. In the hopes of encouraging that, let me offer my congratulations to both Chad King and Larry Byrd for running fine campaigns and making the run-off. Also, let me encourage all other residents of the district in joining my prayers that whoever is ultimately selected to fill this important position will be effective and successful in fighting for our families, businesses and homes.
To those that supported and voted for me, thank you. To those that voted for another, thank you for making your voices heard. Finally, despite the sometimes acrimonious nature of political debate, I thank Aaron and the MH staff for providing this service where we can come together as a community. Your worst critic can often be your best friend. The most important thing is remembering: when the argument is over, we are all still paddling the same small boat.
Thanks,
Roger Lott

Fish-Bait, thank you for that.
So, the voter turnout ranged from 20%-60%. People who cared enough to vote. Actuall yshowed up.
so, the turnout for people who don't care is 80%-40%.How sad, but it makes sense. I think those people that don't vote should be banned from:
talking about politics and complaining
calling or writing a congressman Apologies to any I offend. Just
my humble opinion. :smt086
asking for help from any elected official
But, the public servants will still be there for them.. Kudos to anyone that cared to run for a public office and kudos to all that voted.
Those are the winners in my book.

Thank No-Halo too Daisy. I see I forgot to mention him earlier. It took us a little while but he finally dug it up for me so I could post it.
I am just a little confused as to why the Forresty County races were so poorly covered by the local media. Par for the course I guess.

This could be a 200+ post thread of it's own, but I tend not to think along those lines, and I do think that some of the people that we send to Jackson have good intentions. The system is just so filled with red tape, not much happens in a year's time. I just wonder why Mississippi is at the bottom of every list. We waited till it got really bad to institute tort reform, we've sat around until it's much harder to find house insurance than other states, and we always play catch-up in education. I'd love to see something positive happen in Jackson that makes other states look up and take notice for once.

That's true in most races but look at the dem sec of state and our own mike sumrall auditor's race.
In the sec of state Rob Smith won 75% of the votes and raised almost no money while his young oppenent raised plenty of cash and was picked by ever paper in the state to win it.
In Mike's State Auditor's Race he raised only $4,000 and put in $7,000 of his own money. According to what I've read on the state political blogs he got about 47% of the votes or about 185,000 votes. Both the guys he ran against raised plenty of money and yet got much less votes. Again ever paper in the state picked Mike to finish dead last yet he lead the ticket and at times was over 50% but fell just short of the mark by night's end.
I'm proud of Mike and what he did in this race. Hattiesburg and Forrest county should also be proud of him and his run.

I'm proud of him too, and so hopeful he takes office in January. I'm disappointed in how some of the other races turned out.
