Another thing, refreshing every 4 minutes may be too short. It throws me back to the top of the page while I'm looking through the results.

The results are updated every four minutes by the newsroom automation program but the web page was set to auto refresh every 60 seconds. I've changed that to every three minutes. Hope it helps.
The page was very slow to load here between 9:30 and 10:30. I think the Raycom ftp site was getting swamped. We'll see if there is something we can do differently before the runoff and general election. It'll be interesting to see how many hits we got tonight.

Wilkiesan

Sorry R1ZOOM, these numbers may be final for Lamar, but this is a district race in which Kittrell is currently ahead of Sones (10018-Kittrell, 9050-Sones) with 93% of the Precients reporting.

Thanks for the information. If you know a little AJAX javascript, you can update the page without it ever refreshing the entire page so it makes that issue moot. Good job on the results output though, very informative.

You are correct, I was simply providing the Lamar County results, since this is the Lamar County thread. That's why I listed is as "Lamar County DA Final" and not as a "District 15 DA Final" :)

There's actually a countywide coroner runoff too, so that will help turnout a little bit, but it's still probably going to be pretty low for that district.
Since this is a lamar county election thread, how do u guys feel about the outcome of the super. of education race? I voted for Burnett, but that was only because over the last couple of weeks I talked to several district employees and none of them liked Swan. I was all set to vote for Swan until my conversations with these employees. I just hope I made the right decision.

I am sad and disappointed for Glenn Swan. On what should have been for him a day of great professional pride and accomplishment--the opening of new schools throughout Lamar County--voters chose to remove him from office.
I think Randy Swan summed it up quite well last night when he said it was a shame both of these men chose to run at the same time.
I know how I chose to interpret that comment.
Nevertheless, I wish Ben well as he prepares to take over the leadership of our school district.
As far as whether voters made the right decision, keep in mind this may very well be the last time voters get to elect the county superintendent of education--in four years there likely will be state legislation to appoint these positions (which is the way it should be, IMO).
If that happens, the selection of the superintendent will be in the hands of the respective county school boards.

The supers should be appointed by elected school boards. But saying that, I can't believe the leader of one of the most successful school districts in the state got beat for re-election. I'm not privy to the inner workings of Lamar County politics, but that seemed like a strange outcome to me.

Incumbent superintendents do not fare well in Lamar County when they have an opponent.
Going back a dozen years, the last three incumbents have lost when opposed.

From http://www.reelectglennswan.org/ :
A Message from Glenn Swan ...
Thanking the People of Lamar County
My sincerest thanks to all of the people of Lamar County who supported my election eight years ago, supported me during my eight years in office, and supported my re-election effort on August 7, 2007.
It has been an honor to serve as your superintendent and to work with the fine staff of teachers, administrators, and other staff in the school district.
You have a wonderful school district that does its best for children and ranks among the best in the state. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to lead these great people for eight years.
I will always have a love for the district and its people. Thanks again for the opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely
Glenn Swan

Personally, I like Glen Swann. However, having three women in my family that work for LCS, I had to defer to their unified judgment that he should not be
re-elected.
They felt he had reached a point in his career where he was "buyinig time" to retirement and in doing so grew very complacent with the performance of his principals and administrators.

I come to find out alot of the negative side of the Lamar Co. School District and it's representatives last year. A very serious situation was handled in a very minor way, and that only occured because we pushed this issue. We as parents were not about to let it slide. We met with teachers, counselor, principle, assistant principle and Mr. Swan. I felt he failed in handling the manner in an appropriate way. Sitting in that office I felt as though his day was entirely too busy to worry with the issue at hand. He was down right rude in that office. Surely not the behavior I expected from someone in his position. And sure, I do realise there are parents who complain over petty things but this was DEFINATELY not the case.
So moral of the story is...I lost faith in that moment and I can only hope that this change will be for the best. So many people tend turn their backs and just accept things these days be it they are too busy with life or they just could careless. I'm definately not one of those people especially when it comes to my children and their education.
