Yep and I hope Carlos gets a spankin in two weeks as well.:smt023 Ya'll should have seen him after the final results were read... All the color had left his face. Can it be so? Will Perry Co. finally get a lawman after 20 years of legal oppression? Looks like it may just be either Jimmy Dale or Mike Woodard and I'm shooting for Mike but hey anything would be an improvement.:smt102

Surely he will. I'm sure Carlos was ready to tuck tail and run when the results were announced.

Good morning all, I’m not altogether sure where this post should be (there no longer being a D 104 thread) so I will post here and in the "other pine belt races" thread.
In the hotly contested race for President in 1960, John Wayne (a great American and a die hard Republican) traveled the country encouraging people to vote for Richard Nixon. When JFK won, a reporter asked the Duke what he thought about the outcome. He said "I didn’t vote for him, but he’s my President and I hope he does a good job." As usual, we could learn a lot from an old cowboy. In today’s red and blue divided America, we often forget that when the returns are in we are all once again in the same boat. In the hopes of encouraging that, let me offer my congratulations to both Chad King and Larry Byrd for running fine campaigns and making the run-off. Also, let me encourage all other residents of the district in joining my prayers that whoever is ultimately selected to fill this important position will be effective and successful in fighting for our families, businesses and homes.

To those that supported and voted for me, thank you. To those that voted for another, thank you for making your voices heard. Finally, despite the sometimes acrimonious nature of political debate, I thank Aaron and the MH staff for providing this service where we can come together as a community. Your worst critic can often be your best friend. The most important thing is remembering: when the argument is over, we are all still paddling the same small boat.

Thanks,
Roger Lott

You had my vote until I recieved that petty, negative campaign card in the mail. I'll agree, Chad King was not qualified, but for you to send a campaign card with nothing but rampant insults was distasteful, ineffective, and made you look like the real child out of the bunch.

Leave the insults to we the plebians.

Blue Dog,

Thank you for your opinion and your involvement here and elsewhere. I have no desire to debate my positions or strategy (the good or the bad) in a race in which I am now merely a voter. However, I would like to say a few things about the card I sent out.

I received tons of advice, some good and some bad through the course of the campaign. Still, it was ultimately my decision to take each action, including the mail-out.

I debated long and hard with myself and others about whether or not the card was appropriate and/or necessary. In our neighborhood and phone canvassing, two things became overly apparent. Many people did not know me and many were voting for Chad without knowing anything more than his being Tom’s son. We decided, based on that, to send out a comparison card. I received several anonymous emails with derogatory information and pictures and quite a few phone calls from people that wanted to do nothing but spill dirt on Chad (No doubt a result of the "spirited" debate on this forum".). I responded to each email and phone call. I told each person that I was not interested in spreading rumor or debasing Chad or his family. I simply felt the community at large would benefit from weighing my life experience versus Chad’s. The info that finally made it into the card was simple, factual and admitted by Chad in his filings, at the debates and in his profiles printed by the media.

I admit now, as I did in my mea culpa post weeks ago, that certain actions taken by others in this race had generated an unhealthy animosity in me. I tried to put that out of mind and make the decisions based only on what was best for my campaign. I freely admit that doing so was hard. I tried to put aside any personal grievances when making the decision to send the mail-out. I cannot say I was completely successful. Also, I do not know if I would still send the card if I had it to do over. The part of me that was upset by the tactics of another’s campaign still feels a direct assault was necessary. I also am not ashamed for giving voters information that I feel they should have known. Still, having talked to Chad many times now, while I still cannot say I believe he is ready for the position, he is a good kid with an earnest desire to serve. And, my good Christian upbringing instills a healthy dose of guilt for having allowed myself to fight with unbecoming tactics, even if I felt the victim of the same type of assault (if more covert).

Nevertheless, Blue Dog, what is done is done. I am sorry for letting you down. I have received a mixed response from the card. Many who have been supportive of my presenting the information obviously chose not to vote for either Chad or myself. My pitiful showing may well be a result of the card but I suspect it had much more to do with the fact that I did a poor job introducing myself and ideas to the voters compared to my opponents. I applaud them, congratulate them and encourage all to get out an vote in the upcoming run-off. We have two fine candidates. One represents the vigor of youth, the other the wisdom of age. I have no doubt that either will work hard for our community.

Also, hopefully that will be my last multiple paragraph novella post. Brevity is not my strong suit.

Thanks for the post. Many people forget that I and the volunteers that try their best to make time to help me are just here to provide a service to the community. It gets out of control sometimes, but that's probably expected when people have such close ties to the subject at hand. I appreciate you braving the criticism that you have gotten, your explanations for your actions, and your candor in your posts. I also agree and hope that everyone that does vote, makes an informed decision about who they are putting in office. Many problems that exist in Mississippi can be solved if lawmakers would sit down and agree on a the best solution. Hopefully, we'll put a group in that can do that, and propel Mississippi to the top.

I believe Roger Speed and Stan Smith will be in a run-off for the democratic ticket. Ben Ford's name wasn't listed on the page but he may be a sole candidate on the republican ticket with no competition. Just going by the WDAM election results page though.

What about Jim Kinslow in Jeff Davis and Mike Childress in Marion? Does anyone know how they did in the elections?

I think Kinslow is running in the November as ind. or Republican against whoever wins in the run-off. I will ask when I am there Friday. I am preety sure of that though.

Sorry to hear Mikey (Childress) lost. I always liked him. He seems like he was always in a good mood-that makes a BIG difference in attitude towards your employees. I wish him luck in all his endeavors.
