I am finally gettin' where I can move around somewhat after the boat ramp accident. Had jr. askin' me all day Saturday and on into Sunday if I would take him fishin'. With all the house packin' for the move it's been hard to find any time to do anything. I finally couldn't take it anymore so when we woke up from our Sunday afternoon nap I told jr. to "Load up boy, we are goin' fishin'!":smt023

It was gonna' have to be a short trip so we just decided to go to the Glendale bridge and fish off of the rubble. I bought half a tube of crickets and we made our destination at around 3 p.m.. IT WAS HOT!!!!!

We fished the little pool to the left of the waterfall for about an hour. We caught red-belly (http://www.scubaland.com/Old_Files/lepomis1.jpg)after red-belly!!!
They are really a Pumpkinseed Perch. After about an hour of this we were both sweated down like to pack mules so we give it up! We went up to the store and downed us a couple of Gatorades!

If this weather will ever break and cool us off 10-12 degrees the fishin' will pick up a little. Believe it or not, with as many people that fish under that bridge you can almost always go catch a few. That waterfall puts a fair amount of oxygen in the water and those cats, bream, white perch etc. will come up to the falls and sort of lay there. They get finnicky, but sometimes you can catch em' in the eatin' mode and pull out a nice stringer.

So, for your next fishin' adventure in the near future pack plenty of water and gatorades. Trust me, you'll be glad you did!:)

I just love Pumpkinseed Perch (Great to catch them without having to beat off snakes in some little meandering creek).... Hate to know how they would fight if they reached a couple of pounds !

You know it's hot when it's to hot to fish. I'll be so glad when we start getting some fall temps. I'm hoping to get a few fishing trips in before deer season gets here.

Yeah, I am really bankin' on doin' alot of fishin' towards the end of October or at least right after the first cold front. Fall fishin' can be awesome for the spotted bass around here and reds down on the coast!

I wonder if I tied a cricket fly to fish that pool with, would they hit it on top or would I have to make it a sinker?

Make it a sinker and weight it with some lead wrapping. The bream hold tight to the bank or out in the deep holes. Now up above the water fall you can catchem' on top. Spotted bass will pop em' on top also.

I hate to give away my secrets but, If you put enough weight on (couple of ounces in somecases) and cast directly into the white water you can catch the crap out of channels when they are feedin'. Your bait will setlle just to the outside of the current (this is where they lay). You just have to use a long rod 8 fter' does good. I use 20 lb. mainline and use a 3 way swivel. Tie the sinker (round ones work the best) on with some 8 lb. test about 10 inches long so you can break it off. You will get hung up alot, the trick is to let it settle on bottom just keepin' enough tension on it so it doesn't move. If I have shrimp in the freezer this is what I usually use, but peel em'. You can catch shad (cut em' up like cut-bait) there to with very small beetle spins and those bait rigs you usually find in saltwater sections of the sportin' goods stores. For a hook I use a eagle claw #1 wire. These bend easily enough so you can just bend it back when it straightens out. When they bite they slam it. Now don't all of you go catchin' all my catfishes!:smt022:)

I have spent a good portion of my life fishing that area. The water below the dam is always a great place! I have caught many fine bass from the dam to where the old trestle used to be. Spinnerbaits slow-rolled alongside the logs would kill the bass! Occasionally got into a really good'un. My best bass along that stretch was a little over 7 pounds (on a buzzbait). Good times!

It has gotten kind of rough under the bridge over the past few years. Late evenings can be an adventure when the drunks and crazies are stirred up. Usually they are sleeping it off at daylight, though. But I still hesitate to take my kids there. Don't want them to see (or be involved in) an ugly incident.

Fishbait, you ever have any luck catching stripers in that part of the river? I used to catch some stripers there on big crankbaits or skipjack herring when the water was rising after a rain.

No, it's been to shallow here lately (March) for me to get the wantin' to go specifically pursue them. I'll PM you later!
