For any of you who ever travel to the coast...the roads will be less bumpy! :)

Transportation officials on Thursday announced they would begin the multimillion-dollar U.S. 90 reconstruction project in September, some two months behind schedule.

*this is strictly my opinion* I vote that they put in a lane strictly for tourists, if you get caught outside the lane, you have to walk the rest of the way! :-D

I'm cool with that, as long as coastal residents only use one lane of 49 to evacuate through Hattiesburg. Get caught outside your lane, and you have to walk the rest of the way.

They need a lane just for Cruisin' the Coast participants, with NO speed limit, and no ban on burnouts!

Better yet, two lanes, that way we could drag race!! Put 'Christmas' trees at every redlight!

I guess it was three? years ago when before the summer institute, I was listening to the news on the coast and the traffic guy on WLOX said, "Now just a reminder for all you tourists out there, please stay in the right lane." Cracked me up. When I got to the SI, during our sacred writing time, I wrote about how it's probably not the tourists. It's probably all the local folks who have yet to figure out that the left lane is NOT a travel lane.

When y'all figure out that concept, then maybe you can whinge about the tourists. :kekeke:

The traffic lights will be synchronized...that's a plus!!!! I hate hitting one red light after the next!

People from Mar'on county aren't tourists.

But I never said that...
I'm talking about out of state- who are yall talking about?!?!?

Being from out-of-state now, I guess I would be considered a tourist, although when I get to southern Mississippi, be it Hattiesburg or the coast, I feel like I'm home. I may drive a little slower than the residents because for one, things have changed a lot since I lived in the area and I don't know the roads, turns, businesses like I used to, and because I care. We came to the coast both summers after Katrina, even skipped Hattiesburg this year because we didn't have time to hit both, but I wanted to see the progress that had been made.

Last year, a church group from here went down for two weeks doing volunteer work helping with the cleanup. They spent their vacation and their own money coming down because they also care and wanted to help. I'm sure these people drove slower than some would like but can you blame them? Most of them had never seen such devastation in their lives even on a small scale, much less what you had down there. They came back with nothing but good to say about the people.

Hopefully when we're down in January (providing my plans pan out), we'll see even more progress. :)

Thanks...but every response was about the one line I typed...nothing in response to the article...I don't understand why? What I said at the bottom of the original post was just in fun...the top portion was really to inform anyone interested, since it's something not related to the Pine Belt...didn't want anyone to get on to me for posting about something related to the coast...sorry yall.

Randi, it does interest me. That's why I mentioned "the progress" in my post. I was impressed with the difference in what I saw in 2007 compared to 2006. Getting 90 back up to par will be great, especially with the synchronized traffic signals.

That's the way it works around here, dream. You've done it to people too.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't suck, just that it's what happens.

You can put it out there but you can't control how people are going to respond to you.

Well if I've done that to anyone, I'm sorry...I don't think I'd do it intentionally...it's a mean world around here isn't it.

I would mention that at least PI and Bluesman are my friends, but that simply drags me further down into the gutter....

Back to the, ahem...subject of this thread. I had to go to Jackson today for a meeting. It seems that ever since I was a kid - and that was a LONG time ago - the highways in Jackson are always under construction. Good Lord. Do they ever get finished with a project and give it a rest before starting another. The worst area is always 49 South from about Richland up to the exit to get on 55. That stretch of road should be paved with gold by now, as much money as has been spent on it in the past 30 years. I hate driving in Jackson just because of all the construction!

Driving down the dreaded Hwy today- I've noticed where they have actually recently filled in bad spots. It's HORRIBLE to drive that road in Biloxi, when it's raining. The flooding is so bad! In Pass Christian - it's always bad; I don't know why they haven't worked on it there.
