Ok, we've discussed the pros and cons and done more flaming on this race than was even directed at me in my race....so, Lamar County District 3 residents only please, who do you plan on voting for on Tuesday in the Justice Court run-off between Carol Ann Bustin and Mitch Brent?

Can we finally get rid of the TP signs? They are just so annoying.

I saw TWO teepees on trucks today. What is the deal? It's over. He didn't win. Take those things off! They are soooo obnoxious.

Thank God we don't have to see anymore of CAB's "young and sexy" pictures from her campaign ads!

Someone told me that those TP signs are bolted to those trucks and they have to get someone from the body shop to remove them.

It looks like the public endorsement from the Lamar County Republican Executive committee paid off for Bustin.

It appears so, one of my renters received a letter signed by one of the Executive Committee Members, asking for support for Bustin.

Unbelieveable!

I'm not suprised. I share your same gut reaction, but it's no secret that judicial races are just as political as the rest of em.

Yet another good reason to be "retired" from political parties.

Did you read the letter? I have been informed that NO where on the letter did it have that the Lamar Republican committee supported Bustin. I am aware that a friend of Judge Bustin who happens to be on that committee sent out a letter. Just because she sent a letter out doesn't not mean that the Lamar Republican Committee supported Judge Bustin. Maybe you should re-read the letter....or did you even read it? I think what paid off for Judge Bustin was her education and her experience and maybe some people got to know the real Brent at the Forrest Lamar Republican Womens luncheon!

I agree...but the bylaws of the County GOP Executive Committee prohibit Executive Committee members from publicly supporting candidates during primaries. I have not seen the letter, but have been made aware of it and who wrote it. This letter was inappropriate, as was my opponent's family's presence on the committee during the primary. I DON'T CARE IF THE LETTER WAS WRITTEN TO SUPPORT JUDGE BUSTIN, MITCH BRENT, OR EVEN ME! THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO GO ON!

It is obvious that under the current leadership of the County GOP, the rules simply do not apply, and if I had stayed over the committee (and sat out running this year), this would not have gone on, or I would have demanded resignations.

I have no desire to get back in the circus, but reorganizing caucuses and the county convention (in which the Executive Committees and officers will be elected) will be taking place next spring. Gus, we might need a good man like you to get back in the saddle and clean things up.

Bottom line....Judge Bustin won and Mitch Brent does not even have the guts to call her and concede. Only shows another example of his true character!

It really didn't matter to me who won this race. I liked them both and thought they both would have done a good job.

I had the pleasure of working the polls some during both elections and I can say first hand that I FELT THE TENSION between both sides. It was awful.

I witnessed things by both camps that I thought was uncalled for. I must say that I'm glad it's over.

I think the stress got to everyone. Just my little opinion.

I have no evidence that this letter was approved my the State Party, and I certainly do not believe that such approval would come from Jim Herring, the State Chairman. And I don't automatically take the words of people hiding behind screen names. Scan something in writing and email it to me as an attachment, and then I might listen (it's attybeavers@hotmail.com). I look forward to seeing it!

People are human, and they are going to have opinions. That is natural, and you don't give up that purely human tendency when you get on a Party Executive Committee.

However, as I recall distinctly, once you get on the committee you cannot publicly endorse a candidate in a primary. Such behavior raises an appearance on bias during the primary on the part of the committee, which is responsible for the conduct of the primary.

This behavior sends a message that some candidates are less welcome in the Lamar County GOP than others. This isn't about Judge Bustin or Mitch Brent -- it is about impartiality and fairness. We've created a culture in Lamar County where you can't be elected unless you run Republican (and I helped encouraging that for three years), but I am almost ashamed of my work with what I have seen over the past nine months.

I am not a Democrat and will never be a Democrat, but my public political activity will consist of voting on Election Day. Just as only African Americans, radical liberals, and trial lawyers are the only ones welcome in the Democratic Party, it is evident that only the very wealthy, the hard core religious right, and other chosen few are welcome in the GOP.

Man I find myself agreeing with TDale again. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Why is that so hard for those here to understand.
