I went by James St. apartments the other day. It was wall to wall immigrants. I guess the heat got to them today or maybe they had too many cervezas. It's gettin' out of hand. You know I posted a thread about area deaths the other day. Some folks didn't agree. Well, take a lookie (http://www.wdam.com/Global/story.asp?S=6984612).:smt102

Yeah...James St. apartments is now known as "Little Tiawana"(not sure about the spelling) by the locals. A guy told me one day that the owner rents to the Mexicans by the person there. I would also like to know if Hattiesburg has some sort of city code dealing with occupancy in apartments. If so I would be willing to guarantee they are housing to many per unit there.

Runs in front of HPD downtown.
I would think a town the size of Hattiesburg would have some sort of ordinance on the number of people allowed to live in a property.

They do, unfortunately I don't think it gets enforced in this type of situation. Language barrier maybe?

Petal has one and we use it all the time. About the best we can do is chase them from one house to another. The state has one also ICC-IMPC i think it is 302.1 that states each person living in a dwelling must have x amount of space per person. something like 10 sq. ft. Petal code states that there must be no more than 4 persons unless they are first blood related per living unit. This goes for all R-zoned properties. There is one guy that is in cahoots with some contractors and real estate agents and he goes and rents the places for the rest of the Mexicans, then they cram as many as they can, w/o being caught, into one place. Sometime they charge each person living there several hundreds of dollars each per month. They are making a killing off them. They won't say anything for fear of being caught.

I'll bet this gets more rampant. The housing market is going down. Lots of folks are carpenters around here. When there is no money to be had tensions are gonna' rise. Sometimes the outcome is bad.

So if a guy marries his cousin, who brings in her brothers and sisters, who are also married to each other, how do you reconcile that?

I think there are more issues to worry about than code violations there...that's violations against nature LOL

the guy and cousin' thing ain't gonna' work. He would have to marry his sister. That ain't gonna' work either. A first cousin isn't first blood, at least on my side anyways.

I wonder what the mexican govt or police would do if 500 hattiesburg residents went to mexico and did the things that we deal with here everyday.. No license, no tag, no insurance, no speak english, getting robbed everyday, running from the police, etc..
You know would happen to us.. we would all disappear one day and never be heard from again..
Myhburgers I can tell you its a serious problem here.. Crime against the hispanic community is happening everyday robberies etc... We have to protect and serve them and they laugh at us in their language..

Over the last 15 years or so alot of people have benn killed in that apartment complex.. When the hispanics took over the complex it had got quiet (or not reported)... If I had to guess probably around 10 people have been killed there over the years.

mmmmm, wonder just how many of those guys were "legal" and had green cards? Too bad INS won't come in and round them up! A few years ago one of the HPD officers pulled a mess load of warrants on illegals who he knew was working down at the chicken plant (Marshall Durbin)...he went down and arrested a bus load of them..got them to the jail and had to damn well turn them loose...INS said they WOULD NOT pick them up! THAT is BS!

I rented a storage unit while I was moving, and the contract actually specified that people could not live in the unit. You know they wouldn't have to put something like that in there if someone hadn't tried it. lol.
I have heard that the Mexicans take better care and are better tenant's than the previous tenant's of James St. Apts..

To show my AGE lol. I remember when that apartment complex was not even there. 2 really big an pretty houses sat on that site. Since the apartment was built it went from a nice place to a getto to a barro (sp).Im sorry that there is so my killing there. Looks like they would be just happy to have a place to live and just try and get along.since maybe alot ot them should not even be in this country.

well I was an apartment manager a few years ago (not in Hattiesburg) and I leased 2 apartments to the owner of a construction company, one for him and his wife and one for hsi foreman. Yeah well guess what about 3 days later there were 22 illegals living in a 2 bedroom apartment! When I went to complain to the owner then all of a sudden he did not speak English. It took me 4 months to get them out of there. Other residents were scared to death, there were fights, they took over the pool area etc. Luckily I had a detective and a state trooper living on grounds and they were a big help. The thing that got me, they used the electric stove like a grill, they put their food directly on the eye of the stove, no pan at all. This was back before there were so many of them around.
We need to close the borders and until we do, it will continue.

as far as limits to how many people can live in one space, didn't the City make some kind of somethin about students living in houses and there can't be more than X number of people who aren't blood related or married etc..
I don't really remember or know what i'm talking about but I do remember something about this going on last fall. Does anyone remember what i'm talking about? need more coffee.

One of our supervisors where I work eats there pretty often and says the same thing - it's really good. He's originally from Mexico and is now a legal, naturalized US citizen - so, he aught'a know.;)

If I had to guess probably around 10 people have been killed there over the years.I go past there on my way to and from work and I've noticed that it seems much quieter there nowdays.
Used to be - HPD was there nearly anytime and everytime I passed by - and a full time repair and maintenance crew.
I don't see HPD or the maintenance crew anymore but HFD seems to be there pretty often lately.:-D
I've also noticed I don't get hit-up for a "case qua'ter" or the tired old "lemme hole'a dollah" @#$% nearly as often when I stop by the Big Star on the way home from work.
So far, for my part, I like the 'Mexicans' better'n our home grown PITAs.;)
