Naw, waaaaaay past time. What a buffoon! What a maroon! Now maybe Dubya will appoint someone qualified, instead of a cronie or a perceived racial vote getter.:smt102

Did he really think he could outlast this lack of confidence? Stubbornness seems to run in this administration. They could use a dose of pragmaticism
and save the country a lot of excess frustration and bickering when we have enough on our plates.

The Prez's little circle of close friends is dwindling fast. :) I'm anxious to see who releases the first tell-all book upon Bush's exit from the WH.

So, I guess the 4 reasons that Time talked about are open now. Looks like the White House might be open to investigation now.

Michael Chertoff is slated to be named by Bush as Gonzalez's replacement. Who's up for Homeland Security now?
Oh pleeeeeese no. Can Bush screw up any worse? You're just teasing me, right? I hope he fires Chertoff and hires someone in the friggin' construction business who knows how to build a dayum fence!

That's all hype and BS. We have weightier problems on the table than trying to impugn Gonzales just to get a Dem elected to the White House next November. The Dems need to do the job they are up there to do and quit spending so much time denigrating Republicans. They are part of the problem too. They are 50% of the reason only 16% of the American people think Congress is doing a good job, and they are too stupid to realize it. What has Charles Shumer ever done but whine and bitch? HEY! Everybody get to work up there.

Eric and son have a law firm; very good lawyers. I haven't heard of Emmy's older brother and forgot his name (Bill?). Didn't Woody go to the USAF Acadamy and become a high ranking officer? Oh Woody was a good feller and our HS quarterback; one dem all A's atheletes. How dey do dat? Atheletics made me too tired to study nuttin' but girls.

Wood married Emmy and is "somebody" in Washington. Wrote a book too I think. The Lowry's are Mark, Bill, Emmy and Eric. Mark is a year older than I am. I think Emmy is next (your age?), then Bill and Eric is the youngest. If Eric is in Hattiesburg, I'll call him and find out. Mr. Lowry was with the Hattiesburg American.

I honestly don't know what the big deal is with Gonzalez. Nothing worse than any other politician.

Problem is: The Attorney General of the United States is not . . really really . . a . . "politician", nor is he or she expected to behave as a "politician", at least not until now.

Gonzo's job was to first - FIRST - and foremost - uphold The Law. First Officer Under The Law. Make sense?

While, on the other hand, individuals like Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, George Bush, and even sweet lil' Condie Rice, are first and foremost - politicians. The Law, to those people, doesn't exist, except as they define that existence. Gonzo's job was actually in conflict with theirs. At least, it should have been. But wasn't. Hence:

He resigned - not because he was outraged at the rape of our Constitution by the Bush Administration, the bald-faced perversion of the laws he was sworn to protect, but because it was the Summer recess in Congress and the loudmouths had gone home, the media is in a dull-lull, and the time was POLITICALLY "right."

Next chapter in Gonzo's Excellent Adventure in The Law? A Medal of Freedom, probably, pinned to his lapel by The Decider.

Buh-bye.

Anyone appointed by ANY person of political power is involved in politics- ie. politician.
Again, the man did the samething Bill Clinton did. He fired a bunch of people. He had the power to do it and did it.

Sorry, to be late getting back to you, boys! Woody and Emmy live in suburban D.C. Wood is - get this stuff now - President of the Homeland Security and Intelligence Group of Northrup-Grumman Corporation. He graduated at Auburn on a Navy ROTC Scholarship and retired from the Navy as a Captain. Along the way, he was a White House Fellow, Assistant to Secretary Elizabeth Dole, Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy, and a few other things. They have three girls and a "slew" of grandchildren - all who live close to them.

And he's still the Wood Parker we knew - just talks kind of funny now!

Bill Lowrey is in suburban Washington also and works for an international mission organization. Eric's in Hburg and one of the all-time good guys and a heckuva lawyer. Don't know where Mark is - heck, he's even older than Dollfus, for God's sake! Perrin was a school administrator in Hburg for a long time, and is now retired, I think. Their Daddy was the Editor of the Hburg American, Leaonard - never met a nicer human being.

They did spell their last name, LowREY, not to be confused with Van Lowry - Sr. and Jr. - and Ralph "Corky" Lowry - two more of my all-time favorite Hburgers!

You're right! I forgot about Perrin. He was barely 3 when I was there, I think. I'd think Mark was tied to a religious organization too. Just speculation.
I heard Van, Jr. is in Columbia. He and I were Counsellors at Camp Dantzler together. In fact he was my Sr. Leader when I was a Jr. Leader and getting initiated (getting my arse kicked seven ways from sundown) as a Sr. Leader. That was a scary day. We had some loons as Sr. Leaders who'd just as soon kill you for fun. Not on purpose, just because they had no better sense. That reminds me......Mark was a Sr. Leader out there too.

Dang! You have "E-voked" a memory! I went to Camp Dantzler and took my Ivory soap each morning into the cold, dirty waters of Black Creek two years. Scotty Hargrove was my Cabin Counselor (Sr. Leader) both years. Van was my Jr. Leader one year and worried Scotty to death!

Van retired twice - once from the Army, once from the YMCA. He's now in Columbia, neck deep in politics!

Eggszackly! And that's all Gonzales had to say but he chose to try to defend it with a bunch of denials and excuses. They are political appointees. They come and go at the whim of the President. Same thing with the Surgeon General.
