My little dog BooBoo is a Peke-a-poo...and she is "broke"
She has a long tail that kinks over her back like a Pekenese...yesterday when I let her outside I noticed it was just hanging down beind her straight as a board. Has anyone else ever had, seen or known of a doggy with a curled over the back tail that all of a sudden just started to hang down? If so, how did or was it fixable?
She almost seemed embarrassed about it...but she doesn't seem to be in any pain. About two years ago my son was playing with her and patted her tail and it did the same thing...several days later it curled back up. To my knowledge no one has done anything to her this time. She was fine when she went to bed Sunday night...tail was curled over her back as usual...yesterday it was just hanging there. :(

my mom's dog's tail does that too. she's part papillon and has that tail that curls back, but sometimes it just lay's there..... not that she's hurt it or anything, just sometimes it relaxes.

Thanks onlyme for that link...the way the dog is holding his tail in the picture on that link is exactly how she is now holding her tail. HOPEFULLY it will recover as before in short order. She just looks so pityful!
There have only been the three of us around her and none have grabbed her by the tail or tapped it in anyway...she has always been a little squirrelly about her tail and her feet anyway...doesn't like for anyone to mess with either...when I clip her it is a riot trying to get her to stand still for both the tail and the feet. She always wants to sit down on her but and put fold her feet up underneath her.

onlyme, I noticed late yesterday afternoon that BooBoo's tail "seems" to be trying to recurl...it was about half way curled like normal for about 5 minutes, then it de-curled again...hopefully it will be normal in a few days...please keep her in your prayers... It is still de-curled this morning though... :( Thanks!

MD, I once had (what someone told me - I didn't know what he was) a long-haired chihuahua. His tail curled up over his back. One day I noticed it was hanging down. I started examining him and as I lifted his tail, somehow there was a split just up under it. He whined alittle when I lifted it. I to this day have no idea how it happened. I didnt play rough with him at all. Several days later as it healed, the tail curled back up.

You may want to call your vet just to be on the safe side. Is BooBoo acting as if she is in pain/discomfort?

I have looked at her the best I can...she has long hair (I usually clip it but havn't in a couple of months) and so far I don't see anything unusual...I did run my hand gently down her tail thinking maybe she fell off her perch on the back of the recliner and dislocated it but it feels "normal" to me.

No she acts embarrassed! She is eating good and playing with her old sock play toy and running up and down the hallway when we go from one room to another...if it doesn't seem to heal up in a few days I may call the vet.
