I was prompted by the 'broke' puppy thread to ask about my own dog's current issue.
I've done some research on the web and am pretty sure she's suffering from a cutaneous histocytoma. The info I got about it says they just go away (absorbed back into the body). But haven't had the vet verify it.
What she has is a raised red nodule (more defined than a bump) on her front paw. It is somewhat hardened. It has no pus (cannot be "popped"). There is an absence of hair on the very top, but still soem on the sides. It doesn't seem to hurt her, unless I'm really pushing and prodding it. Mood, appetite, all that is normal.
She is only about a year old so I wouldn't think it would be a tumor..but I don't know..
Anyone ever heard of something like this before??

Here is something I found from AKC...to be on the safeside, I would have it checked. I know a couple of my WFT's had them from time to time...one developed into something that was not good. Good luck...prayers are with you on this one.

Thanks for the info!
She's almost due for her booster shots so I'm taking her to her vet in Starkville on Friday.
I just hope it doesn't come down to surgery, I can't afford that right now :ohnoes:

I just got back from the vet, Ginger's going to be OKAY! =) She got her rabies vaccine, heartworm test (negative!!), and an exam. The vet said that it was a histiocytoma on her paw. She also said that it has gotten raw from all the licking. I'm supposed to keep Ginger from licking that area whenever possible. It should clear up on it own.
I'm soo happy to have a healthy pup!!
:clap:YAY Panther Pet hospital!! --Sweetest people to put up with my nervous pup.

What kind of dog is she?
She is a beautiful "hybrid" aka a mutt. I got her from the humane society and she has been a wonderful dog. People have said she looks like she has beagle, lab, greyhound, cocker spaniel. I personally think she's probably a mix of a couple of mixes. Here's a pic of all of here: In her new coat I just made her. (i'm not one to dress up my dog, but she doesn't have much hair and gets really chilly--shivers, poor baby!)

What a lucky baby to be adopted by a loving parent!!! It is a beautiful coat on a precious baby.
I have one of those heat lamps in my garage and when my babies have to stay outside (While I am at work) they love to cuddle underneath it. I think it is therapeutic for Abby's arthritis too.

Thanks guys! I worked hard on it =) And just realized i made it reversible!!
Dasmybaby: I used a pattern from Walmart- it comes with a pattern for a dog bed too. The pattern is small- i had to adjust it to make it fit her. I'm making another for my friends Chihuahua so I'll let you know how it comes out. I recommend checking the scrap fabric bin at walmart too-- they have fleece really cheap!

What kind of dog is she?
Well, I was in Petsmart looking at the calendar's and noticed one that looked alot like my baby. I'm starting to think she might be a Rhodesian Ridgeback MIX. She doesn't have the characteristic 'ridge' but she does have the same colorings and body structure, although about half the size she should be. Its very exciting to know what she might be now! My b'f loves it because Rhodesian Ridgeback's are also known as "African Lion Hounds" --he thinks it sounds tough. =)
