What is even scarier...In two hours somebody from there can be here. It's not across the country, what is to stop some of them from coming here?

Are these gang related or are tourists walking down the street being killed?

Sounds like the rate is nearly back up to where it was around 2002.

From what I have heard and read it is a little bit of both. "Maybe" the thugs will eventually kill each other off and the good folks won't have to worry about it anymore! :)
Actually though, I hear that alot of it is gang activity and drugs. Too bad innocent people get killed in the process...just thugs wanting something for nothing instead of getting off their a** and getting a job. They have no fear, they know that most likely nothing will happen to them...just look at how many murders got turned aloose after Katrina because of red tape b.s.

That is what my understanding of what is happening is as well. It is almost like there is no middle class left in the city of New Orleans, and I feel like that is what is causing the high crime rate, the people who are left in some parts are criminals. I also understand that there has been alot of gangs that might not have been very active before have become more active.

Tourists aren't being murdered. It's locals who are dying. The places where tourists are, you can't go a block without seeing a police officer. The Quarter and all of those other places are as safe as they ever were. I go all the time by myself...and I don't have problems.

It's doesn't matter who is killing who this is ridiculious... something really needs to be done about this (but i am not god)

Just a hunch, but I don't think that is the type of post-Katrina recovery NOLA is looking to accomplish.

We went down back in the early spring to go to the aquarium. We were lucky and got to park "right there"...after we got done there we left...there were tourist about but not that many...

Well, only partially true...while MOST of the people being killed are locals, the day we went to the aquarium two tourist were killed in the F.Q. just before getting on Espalanade Ave. There have been numerous others too. I heard today on the news where several people who had gone down on vacation decided to stay to help out for a week or so and have been murdered. It is both bad and sad that they would kill those that are their to help their sorry asses!

This is another example of the media blowing smoke up everybody's ass. In 1994, there were 421 murders in New Orleans. Last time I checked, that's over 1 per day.
It's actually lower now.

New Orleans has also been one of the top 5 cities for murder almost every year since it became a city.
Yeah, I was gonna say, only one a day. Somebody must be on vacation.
