You can clearly see three Stingrays here from the Cat trip.....However, in the murky water behind, there were more......I decided to wait until the I could see better before wading back to the boat.....

They're fine......just slide your feet when wading to or from the boat.

Yeah that's what Gonefishin tells me, but I don't even want to be near one in the water. ;)

I sent him an email asking about the Bouie River Launch he uses, and what size boat is that he had by the waterfall pictures???? Looks to be a fairly decent sized bay boat.

Yes 58,
That's what a lot of the fake scallops are made of.

I don't think that was Gonefishin. Maybe it was Fishbait?
Here are Gonefishin's pics (http://www.myhattiesburg.com/gallery/index.php?cat=13423).

I have been wanting to try them. I catch some really big ones out in the mouth of Davis bayou. One day I'm gonna keep a few and try them. That bacon-wrapped idea sounds delicious...(doing my best Homer Simpson "gurgling" impression) :homer:

This is the time of year they will get really thick (stingrays)and they will get thicker all the way through Oct till the first cool snap gets here. I remember my Senior year in High School (Go Goula'!) we took a "first weekend back" trip out to the rigs...there used to be a jack-up rig right outside of the HI pass. Anyways we decided to stop in an fish the surf on the West end of Petit Bois. We were settin' there sling big ole 1 oz. Kastmaster's about a 1/4 mile when this school of rays started comin' through. They stayed just at the edge of the bar and channel.
The school was prolly 30 yds. wide and they swam through for about an hour and a half. I have never seen anything like it since. While they were swimmin' through, small schools of reds(we saw prolly 3 or 4) could be seen with them. We only got one taker at about 24 inches or so, but it was worth it just to watch.

Do they really make fake scollops out of those things? I thot that was BS. I caught one and tried to de-skin that rascal. When I got to the white stuff underneath the shark-like hide, it was tough and grisly as hell....seemed mostly cartlage to me. How in the world could that be made tender enough to pass off as a scollop?
They need to weigh at least 60-70 lbs. before we ever fooled wif em'. That way the Grains are alot bigger....follow me.

A few years ago me and the old man went floundering out at Cat. This guy went with us that had never been before. We were out of the boat for about 5 minutes when I saw one of those big stingrays. The guy that was with me started screaming like a banshee LOL!! He decided that he would stay in the boat for the rest of the trip.

While snorkling in the bahamas many years ago, I had a Manta Ray cruise by me that was the size of car. I 'bout shit my speedo and swallowed 10 gallons of seawater. I'd never seen one in the real and first thot was that it as a man-eating sting ray. later, i wished I'd had the balls to ride him for awhile, but my iniatial reaction was like seeing a big rattler coiled up near my leg
You don't still wear speedos do ya? :smt118

Are you sure? It's not for the faint of heart! :-D
Well, let me rephrase. I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of you from the 80's, just to see what you looked like - but not necessarily of you in a speedo. :-D

When we had the party barge and would fish down in the bayous and the Bay, I caught several sting rays...They were so ugly...I got them to the boat, saw what they were and just cut the line...to hell with the rigging etc. I just replaced it...no way I was messing with those ugly things..my cousin used to cut them up and use them for bait! UGH! :(

I don't think I could land one that big. I caught one about 25-30 pounds and it took me damn near an hour to get that bottom sucker moving. I swear it was like catching an damn anchor.....no fun at all. Pissed me off, I thot I had a big fishes.
If you ever hang into one of them that big, and usually it'll be in some shallower water in the 10 ft. range, when they decide to suck to the bottom just back the boat right over the top of them, sit down and gun it. All the commotion will make em' tear off again. Usually 3-4 times and they will get tired enough that you can get them to the top.
