Believe it or not, my grandmother used to have problems with people stealing flowers off of the graves she decorated.
She had so much fun decorating & redecorating those graves, and working up a righteous anger against those flower thieves. I didn't have the heart to tell her the maintenance crew removed the flowers weekly so they could mow.

Why would they have to remove flowers to mow? The flowers are usually sitting on the headstone and not in the way of where they would be mowing. And even if they removed them for mowing, they should put them back, IMO.

There is one big gravestone & several of the flat plaques on the ground near the big stone (the big stone doesn't have a place for flowers). My grandma liked to make arrangements to put on the individual plaques. It was just a craftsy thing to occupy her time & give us a chance to get her out of the house once in a while.

Bless her heart. I can't believe they were throwing away her flowers that she put so much time and effort into.

if any of you have ever cut a cemetary you'll know how aggrivating it can be when someone's aunt so and so constantly puts hideously large arrangements on a tiny headstone. Also, people will put little solar lights or trinkets and little glass figurines all over the damn place.

I've cut my church's cemetary for 5yrs and i've thrown away many many many arrangements that are really in the way. Plus the wind can misplace arrangements and then when I come to clean up I don't know which flowers go where!?

And i've shattered and slung clear to Alabama just as many little glass figurines using the weedwacker.

The only times i'll go way out of my way to put flowers back or trim behind them is 2 weeks before Christmas, a week before Easter, V-day, and Labor Day. Or if I see its a veteran or a child. Most people will keep up a relative's grave for about 6mo. after their in the ground and then forget about 'em.

I understand why cemeteries move/dispose of grave decorations periodically. They are a hinderance to lawn maintenance, some folks might find certain decorations tacky or offensive, & it isn't the responsibility of the groundskeepers to maintain decorations.
I just found my grandmother's outrage humorous on the 5 min ride from the cemetery to Shoney's. She'd forget about it right about the time she dug in to her All American Burger.

My Paw Paw died Dec 19, 2000...my Maw Maw can't get out of the house much. Anyway, a few years ago, she wanted to put flowers on his grave. The gates were locked, because IDIOT tourists, PARKED their stupid rvs and such IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN the cemetery, ON the graves, for Mardi Gras. How f-ing disrespectful can one be. This is in Pass Christian btw.

Once again...beat up for stupidity...and of course lack of respect. Ok, sorry...that really PISSES me off!!

People have stolen things from his grave...and now my grandma's grave too...may they Rest in Peace together!

I suppose I have been extremely lucky...only once have I missed flowers off the graves of my parents. My dad was buried in 1969, my mom in 1999 both at Highland Cemetary on W. 7th St.

The only flowers that were ever stolen was one large stand of beautiful silk magnolias the day after my mom was buried. I have a sneaky feeling I know who took them too..(a 2nd cousin) I change the flowers out at the cemetary at least 4 times a year, sometimes more often if they get really faded. I usually put out spring flowers in Feb., then something summery around Mothers/Fathers day, mums & fall leaves in Sept. then Poinsettias in Dec. I always try to keep a small flag out for my dad since he was a veteran.

my grandparents are buried in the national cemetary in biloxi-

you CAN NOT put anything out there- flags, flowers, nothing. i thought it sucked even if i was to go out there and put a dozen roses or something on their grave-

which reminds me- i need to go by there the next time i go to the coast
