Here's a link to how all schools in the state rated. Interesting reading.

One test determines how schools rate....Hmmm.

I started a thread in the Pine Belt section on the local school ratings. Did not know this one was already here.

Not a problem. It' s an important subject.

On a side note, I found this www.mde.k12.ms.us/accred/mpsas.doc (http://www.mde.k12.ms.us/accred/mpsas.doc) while doing some research. I had never seen it and haven't read and fully digested all of it. Maybe some of our resident educators could give us a cliff's notes version. I am curious if the schools are truly ranked based on the results of a single test. It looked to me like there were other factors, but I know nothing of this system.

Haven't really read it, but on first glance, it appears to me that there is a difference between accreditation and school ratings. If you notice, the language of the document is different than the language of the article (accredited versus level 5, etc).

Hmmmm...never mind. Read a few more pages.

I hope this link works. It shows item specifications and sample test questions. The sample questions are like a Bible for districts that want to score high on the tests. The curriculum is based on frameworks for math, language, and reading for each grade level. Teachers base their instruction and their testing based on the frameworks. Each teacher has a printout of how each student scored on the previous year's test and is expected to teach specifically to the areas in which students scored poorly. Districts that score at high levels do not get there by accident. Their instruction is based on the frameworks and teaching students how to answer the types of questions that are on the test in the same format that is used on the test. Here goes, let's see if this link works.

I can't click on it to see if it works until I post it, so let's see....

Dadgumit! The link did not work. I'm out of time for a while and can't try again, but you can find this info on the MS State Department of Education's website. I'll try again later when I have a little more time.....

Long Beach and Pass Christian shouldn't be! I know a few people I graduated high school with who are teaching back there [Long Beach] now! Good job to them! :smt023 I know LB was rated pretty high back when I was just in middle school and my first 2 years of high school...from there...my class decided to take us to the bottom! :) lol
