10 1/2? That's the spread? Wow, USM just got a pat on the back. The bookies think they have a chance to win this thing.

Tennessee owns a perfect 4-0 record in its all-time gridiron series with Southern Mississippi, which dates to 1950. All four meetings took place in Knoxville, and two of the four wins were shutouts. The Vols posted a 56-0 triumph in 1950, and the three most recent clashes all have come during the Phillip Fulmer era. Fulmer’s Vols defeated the Eagles 42-0 in 1995, 44-20 in 1997 and 19-16 in 2000.
Fulmer is 13-1 all-time against current members of Conference USA (1-0 vs. East Carolina, 1-0 vs. Houston, 2-0 vs. Marshall, 6-1 vs. Memphis, 1-0 vs. Southern Miss and 2-0 vs. UAB) and has never lost to a C-USA team at Neyland Stadium

Four players on Tennessee’s 2007 roster—Josh McNeil (Collins), Xavier Mitchell (Long Beach), Victor Thomas (Olive Branch) and Casey Woods (Starkville)—hail from the state of Mississippi. Second-year tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Mate Luke is a native of Gulfport, Miss.
In all-time home-openers, the Big Orange have compiled an 87-18-5 (.790) record. The Vols’ last home-opening loss was a 31-0 setback against Florida on Sept. 17, 1994.

I love how no SEC team will play us at home. So what if we have a small stadium.. they'll still get tickets just like everyone else.
USM - 33,000 + 4000 under construction
Auburn - 41,203
Only a difference of 4000 seats.
AU has UA, UM, Georgia and Kentucky at home this year.
Obviously SEC team have no problem playing at Auburn.. so why not USM? If everyone thinks their hotshit <cough> Southwest Memphis/ Moo U. <Cough cough> then come down and "dominate" us at lil ole USM.

Auburn's stadium seats over 85K.....not sure if you got the wrong school....or just some bad information....and, as MMA posted....Auburn is in the SEC....SEC schools have no choice but to play them.....

87,451 to be exact. So that's 54,451 more than USM. Get it straight before you knock other teams.

Always follow the money trail, Hob. With tickets, consessions, parking and everything I haven't thought about, prolly millions of dollars.

How times change. When I was there it was Cliff Hare Stadium and Jordan, who was still coach, was pronounced Jordan, not Jerdan, and Ga. Tech was in the SEC.

Final 39-19
And as for my earlier posts, I was alluding to the fact (although poorly) that most all SEC teams will go to BFE wherever and play smaller out of conference teams with little or no home fan base attending but will not come to play USM where anyone can drive to in a day. So what about "we won't be able to sell as many tickets as we normally do"... jack up the prices for the tickets you do have.
I saw student tickets for Auburn - Ark going for $80+ secondhand.
Don't tell me you can't make money off of tickets.
I wish our QB wouldn't get scared to throw when he gets tackled once.

I think everyone wants those SEC schools playng us no matter what the reason Including Ole Miss and State even if in a Mutual site.USM played well and I'm proud of them they aren't scared to play anyone, anywhere, anytime and some seem to be.Bring us some Reb's and bulldog's we need a State champion as we use to.
Final 39-19..................
I wish our QB wouldn't get scared to throw when he gets tackled once.
How did it end up at 39? They had 34 when I left. Five is an odd number for them to add to that...
As for the QB, I don't think he's the one making the calls.
They played "well"??
They did play pretty well, especially in the first half.
Unfortunately there are two halves.

There was a safety when USM fumbled into the end zone and the QB kicked it out of the back. Then Tennessee kicked a 47 yard field goal.
I do agree that USM looked very good in the first half. The QB was much improved, but will still have issues with the O-line and our cornerbacks. Harrisson also had a problem holding onto the ball.
All in all, the game was actually alot closer than the score indicated and most of the TN fans I talked to after the game were quite respectful of USM and somewhat impressed that we controlled almost half of the game. It's the story of USM versus big time SEC schools, typical good first half followed by a second half that the depth and talent level of the SEC schools comes out.
We need to cinch our big boy pants up now, we still have two very difficult road games left before we are back in Hattiesburg.

I think so too, Mac. Did they beat the spread? My 49-3 TN that came to me in a dream just proves dreams don't mean jack.:-D

I think the spread was USM +11 1/2 at kickoff so that's a no on covering.
