View Full Version : Private bets

A few months ago, I issued a plea to each of you who participate in vbookie to not place secret/private bets. I believe the thread was deleted because it was more than a few months old, but I would really like to reissue that plea again.
The problem with secret/private bets is that we (the vbookies) do not know who is betting the private bets and if a mistake is made on the payouts (and mistakes will happen, we are only human) it is next to impossible to correct the mistake when we don't know who bet what. And if it's a huge amount of money, unless we have proof that you bet that amount, you will not get paid the money.
I really don't see the need for people to be sneaky or to use private bets. Everyone knows that everyone has anyway, so why be secretive? Aaron cannot get rid of the box that you check for a private bet, so I am asking, pleading with each of you to NOT PLACE A PRIVATE BET.
Please, please, please.
Thanks,
virgo
P/S: If you want to be able to place private bets and you have a good reason for doing so, please let me know.
I am also posting a poll to see what the majority of MH thinks about private bets.

I don't really care one way or the other. If screw ups happen, then I kinda figure that has to be the chance you take. :smt102

O.K. I fess up...it's me. I didn't catch the OTHER private bet thread. The only reason I did, was to poke fun at Virgo...It's not like she's never caught me..hehehe...
Another reason is because the box is there. Change the wording after it to say something like "Pick this box to donate your money to hubbarister."

You can't stop it, so I wouldn't worry about it. But, this thread should warn everyone that if they do make a private bet, and a mistake is made, they will not get their money back.

My apologies for the duplicates. I'm about to bet the Hub Bucks I earned doing it on Ole Miss...that should fix that!

I voted yes, why? I donno, because I could...maybe that's why private bets should be allowed....not because you would, but because you could. Personally, this is all fake money anyway, so its not like I care if anyone sees what I bet on or not.
I see Virgo's point though. Is there a way to configure profiles so vBookies can see private bets?

I can see the reason to want to bet private, but I don't usually bet anyway...so I don't care either way.

I believe that betting should be public and polling should be private.
These are my values.

Gay as in homosexual, or gay as in lame?

I said yes mainly so ES can bet and not create a scandal. Wait a minute, that's what we need. A MH score-fixing scandal would be awesome. :kekeke:

I voted yes simply because I think someone should have that option. If you look at this like a competition, then you don't want to tip your hand. That being said, I think it's like playing a poker game with sunglasses. Not against the rules, but not sportsmanlike either.
