I was cruisin' down hwy 42 on the other side of Sumrall yesterday when I spotted my ole' V20 Wellcraft. The thing looked as good as the day I purchased it and became the 3rd owner back in 2002. I traveled all the way to the other side of Tallahassee, FL to pick it up at a price of 7500 bucks.

Well, the fella was hookin' up to it and I just had to stop and give him the history of the boat. It is an 86 model with a 1997 150 Johnson Oceanrunner on it. When I bought it it had about 600 hours on the motor and when I sold it it almost had 800 hours on it. I spent many a night out at the isles on that sucker. I would sleep up in the little cuddy and my brother and our other fishin' buddy would camp up on the beach.

That boat road so well in choppy water. I got caught in some 8 fter's one day when a little front came through and it started howlin' out there. the seas were coming from the South and the front swang down from the North East. We were fishin' the triple rig and were actually doin' pretty well on the Mangroves when I saw the white caps comin'. That front confused the water big time. Tide was goin' out and the seas were then coming from the East Northeast and the South East. It was a helluva time making' it back through the pass. We speared one roller and I think I seen a mullet swim across in front of the windshield:ohnoes:. The ole' bilge pump in that thing ran for 30 minutes non-stop that day. I'll never forget the ice chest knockin' me off my feet when we caught one over the back. My little bro' just laughed at me.....I kicked his ass when we made it to safe harbor on Sand Island. I picked him up and threw his butt off the boat about 50 yds from the shore and made him swim, the little prick.

Anyways, the boat is for sale at a good price 5k. It still looks practically brand new. Here is an old pic from the back of the V20.

It ain't as fun as it used to be. I can remember bein' 15 years old and sneakin' out to Horn in my ole blazer tri-hull. Usually went when it was calm though.

Use too after school we would take out my buddies Boston Whaler 17. Get out of school at 3 o'clock and be slingin' jigs at the bouys or wadefishin' at Petit Bois or Horn at 1/4 til 4. Those were the days....

I fished the same area in the early 80's but my boat was a 14ft john boat with a 9.9 McCullough motor.

I had a coleman crawdad 10 fter'. plastic you know. Got caught in the outgoin' tide at the mouth of the river and had to be towed back I was about 13 or 14 at the time...wasn't good , but mom never found out!

You remember the old wooden hulls at Tuceis with the 7 hp on them?
Many a folk had to be towed back from the islands cuz they ran out of fuel......Ol'e Borriea or however you spell it would get pissed!

My grandpaw had a cabin at the Hercules fish camp on Mary Walker.
I'm familiar with "Tucie boats" towed a couple in myself.

I spent most of my life up until I was around 10 in a Tuceis boat. We never ran out of gas, though. Junior would make trips out in the afternoon, bringing bait and gas to us. We never asked; he just did it. Something about "customer service." I sure miss that fella. He died about 10-12 years ago. Not very talkative, but he ran a great bait house/boat rental business.

I have had my 16 foot bass boat out to Horn island on many occasions, but most people who fish with me won't go that far out. I just got a new boat last week, and I think it is ready for sea trials this weekend. I think I'm going to name the boat "The Other Woman"...
