Well, dropped the BassCat in the Stumpy Lake this morning.....wanted to fish the Ski Lake, but you can't get your boat out of the lake for the sand on the ramp.....that's another story. Went to the back stump field, shallow water, as water temps are moving fish in shallower. Water Temp was 79.4 at the surface. Caught two decent (2 + lb.) fish in the flat using a Sebile 72 mm Bonga Minnow the Blood Red Series. (Don't mind sharing that information, cause it's one of the prototypes that won't be available until February of next year). Left the shallows and ran the dam using the Sebile 48 mm Flat Shad (I think this one is out so color withheld). I was fan casting the dam and picked up 10 more small fish (about half to 3/4 a pound) and about 4 redbellies! Also picked up two of this year class bass (6" fish). Cooler weather is driving them in shallow to feed up before the winter. Get out there and Schmack em!

I tried like hell to get to go fishin' yesterday, but to no avail. I have since then put out a mandate that I will go this comin' weekend come hell or highwater (I already had this very same mandate in place this past Saturday mornin'..go figure). Yesterday was just a bust all together, but I did get some stuff moved around in the storage units. Got some junk put in and some good stuff out, but couldn't find my life jackets for the whaler....demmit!!! Anyways I did get to fish for about 10 min. right before dark in the mudhole behind my maw-n-laws. 1 hit and miss on a purple 4 in. Slug-go. 1 caught on a white Fin-S-Shad with chartruese tail. He prolly weighed about a pound and a half. Anyways, I let Jr. reel him in and he wanted to go put him in the pool as a pet. Took another 20 minutes to explain to him that fish and chlorine don't work well.....

I gotta say, I'm just not down with the whole fishing thing. I did it a few times when I was younger back home. Mostly shoreline fishing into a lake, a few times in a small boat. But I was just bored to death sitting there for hours waiting for something to happen.
And since I'm not really one to gut a dead fish I didn't really have anything to do with the ones I did catch.

An electric fillet knife is a wonderous tool if you like to eat what you catch! Ya' never have to even touch the guts, unless you are like me and like to see what they have been eatin'. I cut a bass's gut open one time and found two blue artificial worms and 2 baby turtles. It was cool. I gutted a black drum one time that had a konk shell in it:confused:. That was cool too. I wondered how long it had been in him. It wasn't a big konk, but a konk nonetheless...weird, and cool.

Naaa..guts aren't on the top of my "must need to see" list. I'm not really down with hunting either. I'm a California-boy. Hug a tree...stuff like that. ;)
I have nothing against either or the people who enjoy them. I just wasn't raised doing them so I don't really have much interest. I do wish though that hunting was limited to areas a bit more away from populated areas. I get nervous when the boy and I are outside and we can hear guns being shot not too far off in the distance.

Ain't nuthin' like the smell of two-stroke smoke or burnt gunpowder at 6 in the mornin'. Go outside just after daylight Sat. mornin' and listen for gunshots. I'll bet you'll hear a couple thousand in the first hour! Hopefully in the distance....:smt102

I'm all about some Fillets myself fish-bait. I'm at work next weekend. If you are needing a quick trip next time I'm home, I'm 5 minutes from 3 different ramps. We'll go stick some.

Oh yeah, went this morning, didn't boat but 6 before the wife was calling my cell phone telling me that my daughter left her bookbag at the house. 1 and a half hours on the water then a trip across town to the school.

Sounds like my yesterday, but I didn't even make it to the ramp. I put a hundred miles on the boat trailer though.:smt009
