Barbi Bass says if the High Pressure system lingers over Oklahoma it could allow the depression to enter the Gulf and pick up strength. This scenario would not be the good part for us.
She says if the HP system slides on toward the Gulf it will make the depression jump back up into land somewhere along the Ms or Ala coast and just drop some rain.

According the the weather "Dr." at the site to which No-Way referred me, we can look for it to "rain." Good preparation would be an umbrella, a rain coat if you're going to a ball game, and maybe make sure your wiper blades on the hoopty ain't wore out.

Katrina was already a hurricane when it passed over Florida and re-entered the gulf. This thing only has like thirty mile an hour winds. Even if it does come near us I doubt it will be more then a category 1.

Well, my problem is creating panic based on assumptions. If this was a category 1 hurricane, then yeah, tell people to get prepared. Even though, we've had several cat 1-3 hurricanes hit the coastline and do little damage. They have to realize that there is still Katrina panic out there and there will be until we have a few that do nothing in hurricane terms besides some strong winds and heavy rain.

I'm hoping for good, strong rains so I can have an excuse to be lazy and stay in pjs all day and watch tv/movies. I think I will try to convence my roomate that it's gonna be BAD though... that way she won't have her 12 year old niece from out of town come stay with us for the weekend. I work with kids... I don't want them in my apt on the weekends too!!

No matter how bad the storm actually is there's going to be some issues in this area if it gains much strength. My understanding is that the gulf coast has a mandatory evacuation for storms with 35+mph winds. That means a huge influx of people will be heading north if this thing turns out to be a tropical storm.

Latest Update from the Company Meteorologist:

"Disturbance #50 is currently strenghtening off the West Coast of Florida. A recon plane will be investigating this system later today. It could be upgraded to a depression or sub-tropical depression in the next 24 hours. Track models are in better agreement focusing a landfall threat over Southeast Louisiana or South Mississippi. Intensity models are slightly weaker with the system forcasting it to reach tropical storm status. Next name on the list is Jerry."

Just talked to our good neighbor skrimp boat capt and he is hoping for clouds today...said de white shrimp will start to run early if we get cloud cover. We are looking foward to anutter guut night to watch de squaws trow nets. Elle May is a natural. Got some guut pics of her last night trowing perfect halos, bringing up skrimp on almost every cast. We tossed nets until midnight yesterday and start again today around 5pm.

De Red fishermen are still bringing in good catches of perfect size reds. You can catch all de bulls you want down here, but dey no lke to clean dem hogs so dey release dem and keep dose in de 4-6 lb range.

Today, is usually when many fishermen show up but de weather thang may be makin' som of dem skert to travel far to got chere. De locals tell be tings are just starting to get better, but if it gots any better, I coldn't handle it.

Have a good time, guys, and brang home some skrimps!

This sucker is gonna slam the coast and it's packin' 35 mph winds!!!!

We are gonna have little small areas of power outages. Try to stay indoors and watch re-runs or sports on the tube. If you have extra barrels laying around, put them under the edges of your roof and collect rainwater in case we have a drought next year. Make sure you have enough supplies on hand to get you through 24 hours. You'll need 2 aa batteries and 2 aaa batteries for your remote controls. 1 can of soup. 1 box of crackers. 1 litre of Crown Royal and 1 case of miller lite. Go to the store now and get some nice steaks and some potatoes. Invite your friends over if needed.:smt023 If you are a smoker make sure to get at least 4 packs of smokes...hurry, time is running out.
