Well opening day of dove season didn't bring much excitement for me. Nothing like a tropical system to ruin the first day. This morning it rained to much so I didn't even get to shoot. Went back for the afternoon hunt. Doves were flying fairly well. Got to do some shooting anyway. Not sure what the totals were for our field but I only came away with 4 birds. Let me just say that my shooting was definitely rusty. Someone give me a good recipe. I must admit that I have always given my doves away because I've just never been interested in eating them. I've decided that I should at least give them a shot but don't have a clue what to do with them. The wife has already told me that she will only eat them fried so I need some ideas in that category. The breast are sitting in the fridge waiting for a response.:smt023

Put a slice of bell pepper on the breast, wrap it in bacon and grill it! Bet you'll change your mind SouthChic when you taste em!

Oh my gawd. I thought this was a fishin' thread !! Isn't your deal FISHIN' ?? You post something about a fishing tournament, your NAME is "gonefishin" . . . and you've killed mourning dove ?? The kind I feed just outside the back - the ones that skip up onto a bench and eat the seed and then fuss with one another and (they're quick-tempered, nasty-dispositioned little big-breasted things when it comes to their seed), and and . .

DOVE season ??? Oh my . .

You didn't do anything. Suescribe was confusing you with gonefishin. ;)

As for the dove breasts, gonefishin put them in a ziplock with some italian dressing to soak tonight. I found several recipes on the internet for him to look at. We'll see what he decides to do with them. :smt023

Well, I did eat more than my quota of fresh seafood, but I know the guy what invited me to a hunt said "Last Sat of the month". Maybe he be doing dat for a purpose...he works offshore. :smt102

hmmmm.....Yeah, sounds like he has a plan. I know alot of folks...well, not alot, but some who planted the 10 days before the season only to have a neighbor disc-up and spread 3 days before and pull all of the birds. That sucks. Anyways....

My son went on his first dove hunt...shot the first bird of the day. We were all proud.
