I passed by there the other day...It really just made me sick seeing it so empty inside. Are they planning on reconstructing in like it was before inside? I still remember those big staircases.

How did you go back in time to take those pictures?

When I see old buildings I think about all the people that went thru the buildings. I mean think about it. The history. Now I don't how old this building is but can you just imagine the kids and the stories involving them back then. All the changes made in H'burg over years since the beginning. It would be nice to have a musum of sorts depicting the change in the students, teachers, classrooms. A classroom of each decade that students today can take tours and see. Just the clothing changes is fascinating. That would be neat. Have the class room set up in details of that decade.

Back part of building: constructed 1910-1911.
Front part of building: constructed 1920-1921.

I guess the history would include me somewhat...I went there in 7th grade. I think it was the last year it was used for students, but I'm not sure.

I think back to my years in HS and it would be a hoot for my kids to see how we dressed and, oh my stars, our hair. And no A/C. Wouldn't that just kill them now a days.

When I went to HHS in the late 80's not every class had AC in it. Only a few did. My computer class did not have AC but we had to have these big fans like in a mechanic's shop just to keep the computers from shutting down due to the heat. The years in Junior High were spent sweltering away in Hattiesburg's summer heat. Nowadays there would probably be some parent trying to sue the school system if they didn't provide ice cold AC rooms to learn in.

When I was in school NO a/c at all...the windows were open and the fans were going! If it was a nice bright day sometimes the teachers would cut the lights off to help make it a little cooler in class.

Districtwide AC wasn't installed until the energy efficiency bond issue in 1988. Phase I was window replacement; phase II was AC installation.
