Does anyone know what the hold up is on that new Bakery on Hardy Street near the Park not being opend yet? I pass there almost everyday each time looking to see if there is a chance I might find it open ,so that I can get a nice cup of coffee and what ever wonderful new kind of Pastry they might have to serve. If anyone happens to know when it's going to open ,let me know. :smt001

What's, The Salad Bowl?
Is it a salad bar buffet like Sweet Tomatoes or Fresh Choice?

The Salad Bowl was open for a little while, I went in there one day and you would be better off going to the buffett at Pizza Hut and it would have been cheaper.
As for the place on Hardy Street, I know there was an article in the newspaper about it months back but still no sign of when they will be open. I know the owners are doing alot of the work themselves but I never see any progress. They live accross the street from me, if I ever see them out I will try and ask.

Someone said that the Bakery isn't going to be an actual Bakery... that's just the name. Like naming an office complex The Ice Cream Factory. that's what I heard.

I ate there once. That's all it took for me. I was expecting a bar like the one that used to be in the Jitney Premier before it closed. Now that was a good bar...
What I found at this place was way over priced for the selection. I think we paid $7.00 plus our drink. The soup looked like it had been in the pot for days. If I remember correctly there was 2 choices of soup, 2 different types of lettuce, and baby spinach leaves, cheese, ham, olives, mushrooms, peppers (bell, salad, cherry), tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots (I'm thinking there might have even been a 3-bean salad and a pasta salad) and then on the other bar some dried out fruit.
At least at the Jitney Premier you paid for the salad by the lbs. and there was always fresh veggies and fruits of the season.

What about the new Mexican place across the street from Bop's on Hardy (at Ross). They have an open sign, but there's so much street construction around them I can't see how you would even get into their lot. Anybody try it?

I have been and thought it was good. If you have ever been to Moe's in Jackson, it is very similar just a little more expensive. But I still think the burrito's at Side Door Cafe are better.

Near what park? If you mean the one downtown its not an actual bakery. Its a complex with commercial and office spaces. Rare Design has moved their office in already.

I really loved that Jitney Premier Salad Bar too. Would give anything if the people that ran that bar would open up another one somewhere here in town. I know it was in a grocey store but, they could find a nice place and start serving that good Salad, all different kinds like they had once again. I know it want happen but I can always dream. As for that bakery,I guess i'll just keep looking for an open sign.

the place next to Moore's Bike Shop? MS power was out there today doing something. They've got a huge pile of lumber behind the building and look like they're either in the process of adding on a deck or another room. They still look like they've got a month or more to open... how many months has it been?

Caliente Grill :smt023
I went last Friday and loved it! I've been waiting for a place like this to open! I agree it's a little pricey but not much more than McAlisters or a sandwich shop would be. The construction IS AWEFUL! I parked at Barnhills and would recommend that to anyone else. They have a pretty good lunch special, a "small" (couldn't eat it all) burrito with chips and salsa (pico de gallo really) and a drink (32oz) for $7.99. I think they have a quesadilla special too. It is similar to Moes or Q'doba. I hope it works out here in Hattiesburg, check out their website too- neat story about how it started. http://www.caliente-grille.com/content.php?p=3

Look for Barnhills to put up a sign stating its parking lot is for Barnhills customers only. You watch. ;)
(FYI...I'm not a Barnhills fan.)

Does anyone know what else they're building near the new Kohls? They've put up tons of sign spaces like they're expecting more businesses and there's plenty of cleared land. They've just started putting down the foundation for whatever it is they're currently working on... I HOPE Hattiesburg is getting a Barnes and Noble soon. And I wish Panera Bread would move to Mississippi already.

We have a Barnes and Nobles on the USM campus.

Guess you haven't been in there. Not many books at all. They (B&N) own the "Bookstore" at both USM and Carey. There is far more clothing, and other college type stuff than regular books. It is not a regular Barnes and Noble.
On my wife and I's wish list is another book store to compete with Books A Million. Books/magazines are not put back ....in the children's section the other day there was probably a dozen books thrown on the floor. People use that as a Children's library - Oak Grove Branch. I just hate going in there...to say nothing of the indifferent (at best) staff.
PLEASE bring us another book store.

I've been in there, but the lack of books doesn't change the fact that it's a Barnes and Noble.

Yes, I am aware of that. Although it's owned by Barnes and Noble, it's HARDLY a REAL Barnes and Noble.

I laughed so hard when I heard them bragging about that. Most of the second floor is useless except for the very beginning of the semester and I'd say about a third of the bottom floor is actually books. Wal-Mart has a bigger magazine rack. It's a joke.

Do they SERIOUSLY?! That's really sad. The one in Gulfport is ten times bigger. When you go to B&N's website to look up their locations in Mississippi, they don't even include the university campus bookstores as B&N stores. And apparently your B&N membership can't be used at univerity bookstores either. :/
