yeah. It wasn't impressed. The pasta was way overcooked and the sauce was bland. Maybe I caught them on a bad day?

No you did not catch them on a bad day. That is how it was when I went as well and from everything I have heard that is how it is when everyone else has gone as well.

I doubt it.
I took my woman there a couple weeks ago and ordered the calamari as an appetizer...then I ordered something basic..the chicken parmigiana and she got the cornish hen
the calamari was obviously poured into the fryer from a bag that was purchased from either Sams or from a sysco truck
the chicken parmigiana was alright but its nearly impossible to screw that up
the hen was bland and the risotto that goes with ti was entirely overcooked...after she said she didnt like it, i tried it and came to the conclusion that it tasted like neckbones and rice
and thats fine and all...different places have different ways of cooking...im all about it
the thing that bothered me is, when the waiter inquired about the food, my woman didnt say anything, but she did have the look of displeasure on her face so it was hard to hide the fact that she didnt prefer it..and thast all she said is she didnt prefer it
well he told his manager...as he probably should have...
but the manager came out and was a complete and utter douchebag. "we sold 3 of the hens already today with no complaints and i tasted the risotto and its fine...so thats that" and basically walked off
then the chef came by...and while i admire his intentions...he was speaking to us like he was cooking at some 5 star joint in NYC....but he was very nice and genuinely concerned about her liking the food.
I think he is a much better chef than the owner is giving him resources.
I mean...who cooks frozen calamari at a 'fine' italian restaurant.
oh...the waiter was awesome though. despite being aggravated by the manager...i still tipped the fire out of him.

The douchebag probably thought you were angling for a free meal. I hate it when they act like that.

I wouldn't know hwo or why...we didnt actively complain...
we were discussing how she didnt like it, and the waiter walked up...asked how it was...we exchanged the look of 'should we say something' and ultimately didnt...the waiter was pretty keen and inquired further...
then the manager asked about it...and she was very nice and said 'it just wasnt what i was expecting'...not even saying it was bad or anything
and its fair...risotto isnt supposed to taste like neckbones and rice.

I'm sure I wrote a post about it after we went, but I'll say it again.
I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. It was watery and tasteless. My husband ordered the peppers and sausage. We ended up trading because I was so dissatisfied with my food. The first sausage I bit into was frozen in the middle. The rest was okay.
Their tea is nasty too.
I'll be surprised if they're still open in six months.

I've been and its a great example of what poor management can do to something that could have had possibilities. It was just sad.

where is this place? i see signs everywhere, but no store
also, why hasn't the city called their a$$? your not allowed to have those stupid little signs out in the median of the road- it's against city ordinance-
i know they get onto us for flying balloons too high and putting signs by the road-

I wonder if the "crappy Italian joint" will benefit from the overflow crowd that is bound to be at Wintzell's?

probably only one time per customer. Once you eat there, you won't go back! It'd be worth a long wait at Wintzells over eating the crap at the italian place.

I've eaten at that italian place one time and had the lasagna. It had a sour taste to it. I can't remember what the other person with me had, but they didn't like it either. That was my one time to go there and won't go back.

I had lunch there once and it was less than spectacular. On a whim I took my wife there about a month later and was really impressed. I've eaten there twice since then and it had been good. The wine prices were excellent, the wait staff friendly, and the food was as good as any other Italian-esque place in town, though the addition of an espresso machine would be nice. For that matter, I'd like to find espresso machines in all of the upscale places around here.

That would be awesome. One of my favorites! Their tiramisu (sp?) is excellent.

i question the source of this post.
i question the source of this post.
I was thinking the same thing.
And I would hardly call "Fiorella's" an "upscale place."
But ... welcome to the forum Ossif.

Thanks for the thinly-veiled skeptical welcome. Just my opinion of the place (no related to anyone there, work there invested, etc.) As far as it being upscale goes, it's a relative term. Whereas you can get a good meal regardless of the "scale" of the place in France (especially Paris), in this region I consider a place that doesn't give kids crayons when they arrive, has linen napkins and tablecloths, more than one fork (set on the left hand side of the plate, of course), and a noticeable lack of t-shirts and camouflage upscale.

you know what we can do right? email the heck out of them requesting it. obviously its doing well in jackson. we need a REAL italian place that isnt built for snobby kids through their food on the floor and wanting to color on the table.
what do you think?

I haven't tried Fiorella's yet, but I do plan to sometime soon. I haven't heard anything really positive about it, but I do want to go try it out.

I always feel that going to a restaraunt right afer it opens really wont give you a fair impression of how things truly are so the wife and I always wait 3-4 weeks before going to a new establishment, giving them time to iron out any rough edges that they have. That being said, this is exactly what we did with Fiorella's and to say that we werent impressed in the slightest is an understatement. From slow, uneducated and lousy service, bland non exciting menu items to the overall lack of forethought for "upscale" furnishing this restaraunt truly sucks the big one. My boy scouts could do a better job cooking over a campfire. C'mon people I'm tired of the advertising in this town that falls far short of the delivery. My 2 cents.
