I was surprised that the HA did not mention that long time chancellor, Judge Howard L. (Pat) Patterson had passed away. He was a fixture in local politics for a long time....love and prayers go out to all his family...he will be missed.

There was a small article in yesterday's paper and a larger one today. Judge Thomas was quoted, stating that he'd considered Judge Patterson, a mentor, which given my respect for Judge Thomas says a lot.

Judge Patterson was well before my time and I am not certain that I ever met him, but I have never heard anything but good things about him from my elder peers in the bar. We should all be thankful for his years of dedicated service to the community, and offer our prayers and condolences to his family during this time.

I worked with his wife, Brenda. She took wonderful care of him during his last years. I pray she may have rest and peace.

I agree that he was a long time local fixture; however, the Hattiesburg American had a lengthy article about it today.
