Let us keep a tally on these prostitutes. We need to open the eyes of the public and do something about this. Just the other day I witnessed a man pick up one of these prostitutes in front of the school, Jones I think it is, it is on the bypass. 2 hours later I witnessed this man working on a fence in Petal and he had his young child helping him. The kid could not have been over 10 years old. I though to myself "If that child only knew."

I am glad the Police Department is cracking down on these prostitutes. I have seen less and less of them since the ho-sting they had a few weeks back. Good Job!:smt023

So, tell us when you see a hoe on the bypass. It is time for the hoes to go!:smt023

or, "if that wife only knew". Men that do this are playing russian roullette with their own lives and the life of their spouse. How can one have so little respect for the person for which they are espoused? I just don't understand it.:smt009

I don't care about the prostitutes. I would much rather see police stop violent crime, Drug Trade or burglaries rather than clamp down on prostitution. Prostitution is two consenting adults perfroming sexual acts, albeit one is obtaining pay for the act. It's a business transaction, no matter how questionable the sanity of the John would be to pick up some of these prostitutes.

Business transaction? Yeah, so is dealing crack. Prostitution is illegal for a reason; it is a danger to society and a public health hazard. I have a problem with prostitutes and johhs, john's especially. One usually does it out of desperation, the other, out of lust and exploitation. Drugs, prostitution, burglaries, they all hurt families and society.

prostitution, drugs, and violent crime almost always intersect with each other

most prostitutes arent prostitutes because theyre raising a family...theyre prostitutes to support a coke or crack habit and probably commit some sort of violent crime or have some sort of violent crime committed against them

you mitigate prostitution...you mitigate the rest of the crimes

Disclaimer: I do not support prostitution, have never hired or been hired as a prostitute. Just a free thinker.

Correct BlueDog, dealing crack is a transaction as well, although I would argue it is more likely to cause harm. Are these prostitutes performing their acts to obtain crack???? Prolly so.

Prostitution is a danger to society? How so? It's an act between two people. It's a danger to the John who like I said his sanity must be questioned for his choice. But Society????? Society where People are screaming for their RIGHTS to MURDER their unborn children labled as pro choice? Society where people what the RIGHT to die for grandma, so they don't have to deal with alzheimers? Society where it's perfectly acceptable to recite the freedoms of these choices but a slap to faces if you bring up God?

This society is already gone.

Prostitution is illegal due to Morality Laws set forth years ago when the society had morals......

no-brainer.

One of the bedrocks of our society is family values. Just like it was said in this post, "what if the child knew", or "what if the wife knew". Prostitution can destroy a man, his career, his family, his health. Prostitution cheapens the value of human life. Prostitution is addictive, it all sounds just like drugs.

There are too many ways to describe how it negatively affects our society, so I'll leave it with those.

Yeah, I agree with Doherty there. If it were regulated, taxed, and kept clean, like in Vegas, it'd be completely fine.

If you're worried about the safety, then why not ban all std-positive people from sex? It's the same situation. Oh! I know, we can make an std colony and ship people to them like lepers.

But more or less, what I'm getting at is when it took the cops 45 minutes to show up to 28th and 7th in reference to an assault and forced entry in progress, it had better in the hell not have been because the nearest cop was "busy" arresting the nearest young Mary Magdelene.

There's higher priority crime out there that needs to be focused on first.

Back where I grew up in Pascagoula there were hookers on the street corners, they are still there today. They still work Market and 90. The POlice bust em', but they just keep comin' back so they can make money for their crack rock. It's pitiful. They are the most disgustin' lookin' hookers you have ever looked at....grosses the crap out of me.

BlueDog.....I've agreed with you on previous posts <grinz> and do here as well.....I'm just saying, that there are numerous other things that I worry about more than protitution on the other side of town. The what if's you mentioned above or lack of asking them are a sign of a sickened morality that many face. I agree that prostitution is seldom as romantic as Pretty Woman would have you believe, and that other crimes surround prostitution. I also know that it makes good headlines when HPD rounds up half a dozen or so Johns and prostitutes, but in a week, the practice is going strong again.

No thanks. I don't want any government benefit/service that was derived from taxing a woman that sold her christ given body to the highest or only bidder.

RD- I am not getting the point of your rebuttal.

But let me ask you this- How would you feel is your sister or daughter or any one that you love was involved in prostitution? Wouldn't you want someone to care? I have a beautiful sister that is gone from us- I sure do wish I had known then to look beyond her behavior and had been able to see that she was trapped by people who only wanted to make money off of her. She is in Iraq now "trading her wares."
I will probably never see her again.

Women and girls are exploited every day; they are kidnapped, raped and even killed by pimps who farm these women out. There is a clear danger to the men, women and children who participate in prostitution.

Our society is different than it was 25 years ago and I do hate to see a prostitute standing on a corner or wherever they are. I just try to remember that she is someone's sister, daughter or mother and that if we knew her story, we would probably cry.

Do I have an answer? No, but ignore that prostitution is a crime is not the answer. P

Several of the prostitutes over there "were" family ladies until something happened in their lives and they turned to drugs....eventually ending up on crack....once they've sold everything they have, including their souls, they start selling themselves to support the habit...once it has gotten to that point, their bodies must have the drug to function...if they just quit cold turkey their bodies will go into shock and die, therefore they do whatever it takes to get the crack.

Flowergirl, thank you for sharing that. I would not want my daughters or sisters involved in prostitution. That is NOT what I am alluding to. I would like Law Enforcement to focus more on better response times to violent crime, stopping drug trade, and burglaries. To be quite honest, stopping drug trade would probably greatly reduce all of the others mentioned. Prostitution is a symptom of a much bigger illness. It's been touched on here......Morality. The society's morality is declining. The answer is stopping the disease, not the symtoms.

I also feel that you and your family are the best chance your sister has to reclaim her life and hope that y'all are in a position to help her.

Your sister, and your family will be in my prayers.

I think our point is all these crimes are so very correlated it is difficult to seperate prostutution from those you believe should be the focus of law enforcement. For example, prostitutes are frequently subjected to violence and rape. Drugs and prostitution go hand and hand. ...

They are all a different expression of equally offensive behavior for which our laws and society should regulate.

Rid the Burg' of these HO's. It's disgusting. I figured that some forum members from Petal would speak up about this. When someone is coming into the city via the By-pass they have to look at these prostitues walking up and down the road. They get into vehicles with people right in front of everyone. Everyone knows what is going on. Or down, pardon the pun please. We shouldn't let this happen. So keep the comments coming.

This is just a sad state of affairs no matter how you look at it.
People get off into something they weren't prepared for. Hooked. Makes no difference what it is and except for overeating most of it becomes crime related, simple as peas and carrots.
We have some poor misguided people in this world and we really, really, really want to help. It's a good day if that help results in something productive but a lot of times the "ism" folks stay nose-to-the-grindstone into the bad things until they simply wear out, wear down and perish.
To me a drug merchant offering an addict more drugs would fit into the category of homicide, you know it's like handing a gun to somebody that wants to shoot themselves.
For folks afflicted with it in their family, I know your pain. There is such a fine line between helping and becoming an enabler (codependent).

Yeah but CD what they are saying is that some of these diseases spread prolifically.
Let's just put the blame on the men since we have such broad shoulders.
Man get's some stray paid Poontang.
Man goes home and gives it to his wife.
Wife gets preggo.
Child picks up disease while in-situ.
And do be aware some of these things don't go dormant just because they got wiped on a counter.
Wife goes into labor and goes to hospital. Nurse Zonie gets hit in the eye by some bodily fluids and 6 months later gets introduced to a little "surprise".
Poontang needs drugs. Poontang has to be sold to buy drugs. Good-but-stupid-guy buys Poontang. Good-but-stupid-guy takes "Harold" home for wife's Poontang which does not need drugs.
Flash the neighborhood pimp wants money for bling bling. Flash gets Esmerelda on the payroll to make some quick money for both of them. Flash also gives Esmerelda some crack to keep her close to him.
Flash and Esmerelda have a good thing going until Flash's cross town rival Sweet Pete decides he needs more money for his ever growing market or habit.
Flash and Esmerelda are "hit" in a drive by shooting. A couple of stray bullets miss Flash and Esmerelda but go through the front window of Jim and Susie's house and hit little Johnny or Susie in the forehead, they die. GrandPa Earl and GrandMa Pearl are devastated by this along with Jim, Susie, Jim's brothers and sisters, Susie's brothers and sisters - Mom - Dad and Uncle Vert and Aunt Gert, etc etc etc.
Flash's cross town rival Sweet Pete gets chased by Badge #1. Flash's cross town rival won't stop. He runs through an intersection and cleans out the Saturday morning bicycle crew on their way to coffee. Badge #2 jumps the curb and crashed into a bridge abutment. He dies. Families X10 with members X100 are crushed. Lives are shattered.
Flash's cross town rival (Sweet Pete) decides it's too hot to be seen on the open street with his new ho Flamiqua. Sweet Pete decides it might be easier to break in the John Deere place to check for leftover cash and is surprised by Uncle Crone who went in early to get the coffee started. Uncle Crone gets shot, Aunt Rone is shattered.
etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
They are just saying it's a never-ending circle of tragedy. Some of you may not understand how easy this happens, I'm glad you don't.

The girl that wears the thick glasses was raised about 2 miles from me. I know all of her family. She has 3 more sisters and three brothers. They was raised dirt poor. She went with one of the fair workers at the Laurel fair and stayed gone a year or so. I saw her at a store in Jones County a month ago and she told me had cancer and was going to stay at home some with her mother but I have since spotted her back on the bypass.

Kitty and Honey, I know one of the girls personally and know that tons of people have tried and continue to try to help her and others and their response is that there is nothing wrong with it and that they are happy doing what they do... It makes no sense... It is such a waste of life. They are so addicted to drugs that they really have lost touch with reality and their whole lives are now consumed with being high... With doing whatever they have to do to get the next fix.... As I have said before in other threads, many of my family members are drug addicts and alcoholics... They have all had every opportunity in the world to clean their lives up and have the support of so many people, but they continue to chose the same lifestyle that they have had for years... it really is sad... All I do at this point is just pray for them and (I know that some will call in enabling) make sure that they are not going hungry... It would be easier to give up on them and wash my hands of them, but good or bad, they are still my family and I will always hope, just like I will hope for the girls on the bypass, that maybe someday something will happen and they will choose to better themselves and get out of the rut that they have gotten themselves into.

To be an enabler is easy, tough love is hard.
Typically we will be an enabler. If we have any compassion that is who we are.
When I am not one of those I am the weak as water avoider. Gosh I've seen so many of them that I know most are working you for something. It's just our spiritual side that will hope we are with that one that is really looking for help and has the potential to utilize it.

Y'know, I daresay that on a certain level, I respect the prostitutes. They aren't dancing around the issue or hiding what they are. So many men and women are so deceptive, even self-deceptive, that they basically use a bartering system with a smattering of faux romance to do the same thing, and with multiple partners on the sly, besides.

At least with a 'tang-for-hire situation there's honesty, just as there is with true love . . . the same, except for the fact that the two are completely different.

But still, it's funny how the honesty spectrum comes full circle. (The nasty spectrum is a different matter.)

I wouldn't suggest stopping your vehicle & trying to talk to one of them. A guy that my husband works with was driving to work one morning & one of them flagged him down. Said that she needed a ride. Well, when she climbed into the truck she told the guy that if he didn't give her $100 cash that she was going to start screaming rape! He didn't have $100, but had $50 & that was ALL he had. She took it & jumped out of the truck & took off! My husband said that one morning one of them practically jumped out in front of him & said that she needed a ride. He kept on going & she started cussing him out!!!:smt118

Another place prosidutes are bad is the truck stops. I had a 9-1-1 call just tonight from a lady trucker, trying to get some sleep and had had her door knocked on 3 times by different "hookers". She asked me if there was anything I could do anything. I felt bad because there really wasn't anything that I could do. I just had to give it to HPD, and and hope for the best for her.

Prostitutes wouldn't be out there if their business wasn't so successful.

I know from dealing with them many years ago when I was at the FCSO, the majority of these women don't want to do anything else. This is what they choose to do. They will take whatever money they can get (and I mean whatever they can get, I know of one who took $25 once and then got arrested) and they do the deed and many times, they go right back out there. This one woman I know of probably has about six or seven kids (and that was seven years ago). Many of these women are also crack addicts. Its not like they are taking the money they get and helping their families. They are taking the money they get and buying more crack.

Just curious. How is two skanky people having sex a health hazard to the public?
I'm not going to catch anything because they're doing it. You're not going to catch anything from them doing it so how is it a health hazard to the general population?

You don't understand why it is a public health hazard because you don't know what is a public health hazard. You are under the false presumption that to be a public health hazard a disease or activity has to be the equivalent of some kind of airborne illness like the flu.

Aside from the points made by others here with regards to spreading disease to family members, hundreds if not thousands of academic and government studies have been done on the public health risks associated with various activities that significantly promulgate sexually transmitted diseases; most notably, illicit drug use and prostituion.

I also find it rather disingenious to use a historical argument to justify prostitution today. There is one big difference 'tween now and then.

One reason for our change in attitude is a result of the the worldwide spread of AIDS which has greatly increased concern about public health problems created by prostitution. In Africa and India especially, one factor in the rapid spread of AIDS has been the prostitution industry serving migrant workers who travel all over the national geography.

So, ask yeah, damn straight it's a public health hazard.

* Exactly. And this goes for drug dealers also. If the positive pay off is better than the negative recourse prostitutes and dealers will continue. You have to make the downside more painful to change a behaviour.

When I have guests coming to visit my last great act of defiance after manicuring the grounds and having a completely immaculate house is to get on roadways and clean ALL the trash off .......

It stresses me to know you Petal folks have a driveway called the Bypass. I'm not messing with you, just saying that for most of your guests that is the way they get to your house.
Such a pretty little town and all those poleece. What about getting either a city police car, county sheriff's deputy or even a MHP to set up there until the hookah's can be driven out?

If you move them from one place they'll just show up someplace else. They aren't gonna stop. Might as well designate some out of the way area and tell 'em, okay this is the skankarama, hang out here & we'll leave you alone.

She kept on going & she started cussing him out!!!:smt118

Firefly, he should not have given her a dime!!!! He should have told her to get her skank a$$ out of his car and run before he busts a cap in her! The mean streak in me says that he should have chased her down with his truck and run into her and when she was on the ground, got out and got his 50 bucks back and left her there to rot!

Or, to be legal and let us not forget, politically correct, told her to get out before HE called the cops!

If there is one thing that I have learned in this world, it is that a drug addict will look you in the eye and lie to your face about his or her momma and kids dying if they don't get $20.00 from you at that moment... they have no morals and will do anything, murder, lie, cheat, steal, sell themselves and their souls and never have an ounce of remorse!

I have no sympathy for them. They live the life that they choose! As the old Possum (George Jones, for those who don't know who the Possum is) sings, "Living and dying with the choices we've made."

That is hilarious!
A friend of mine & I were in St. Petersburg once and a girl jumped in our car as we were leaving a convenience store. (it was a large convertible) She asked us if we'd give her a ride to Tampa.
We said no.
She offered sex for a ride.
We told her to get out of the car.
She said she would have sex with us both for $40 or get out of the car for $20, but she wasn't leaving without money or a ride.
We considered calling the cops, but decided that would take too long so we threw her out of the car & took off.
The convenience store clerk had come outside & was laughing his ass off.

Well, I did come back to town last night. Caught a movie and then thought I better go check out the new coffee shop in Petal, see where it is in case I decide to come back down tomorrow afternoon.

Took off down the bypass and when I got to the Bypass Bridge over Leaf River (the dividing line) I saw this real purty girl standing on the bridge waving.
I had my mind on coffee and didn't really think what I was doing until I stopped to see what the matter might be.
She told me she was a transplanted (not transgendered) girl from Tennesee who "came down" for a little fun. She had one of those cosmic sounding names like Virgo or something, real hippy like.

So while I was parked on the bypass bridge and she was walking across the bridge at 2:00 am I asked her what are you doing here? She said here was where it was and she would make me scream like a banshee for $1000!!!
Well heck, I already had my roll on to make nice with her but as we all know $1000 will make a good down payment on a new disk for the tractor so I just couldn't do it.
She was most enticing and entrancing though and just as I thought I might talk her down to a closer number that fit my budget, $5, this guy pulled up in a shiny new white Ford Expedition with one of those Ricko Suave' personalized tags saying "Path" something or other and she took off running for him. Alone again.

A true tale of unrequited love. The last I saw of her and her girlfriend, IBrakeForBoys was her stumbling and tripping down through the gravel to catch up with Mr Slick in his white Expedition. I hollered "Just for that ima tell those cops down at the intersection about how you treat ernest farm boys and see if they can pick you up and take you back to Evelyn Gandy Parkway and put you back on the road to Tenneesee."

A big old cop stopped with some girl that was so young she could have been his daughter ??????? and said well I don't wear No-Halo myself and I'm gonna take care of this, you just go on home and check the cows son.

So, I popped some Molly Hatchet in the juke box and headed back North with my tail between my legs.

j/k: a lovely party on the side of the road during the middle of the night road block near the bypass bridge with Virgo, IBB, Pathfinder, No-Halo, daughter and me and a host of badge's finest.

I saw one leaned over into the window of a HPD car on my way back from class. As far as I know, there are more than a few cops who know them all by name and know exactly what they're doing... but unless you catch them in the act, then you can't just pick them up for walking up and down the bypass.

Legalize prostitution, legalize drugs. That's my opinion.

Prostitution has been around forever, and will be around forever. My FIL says without prostitution, how else are fat and ugly people going to get laid?

Same thing about gambling? Legalize it? All have been around for few thousand years. That's an excuse to legalize them? I just don't agree with you on this one CB. They are not victimless crimes. Laws aren't to keep people from doing things, they are a deterent from hurting others And while I'm on this stump, incarcerated criminals who commit crimes on others in prison should be given life sentences and those who kill others while in prison, should be put to death automatically. Again, a firing squad (heaven forbid if we hanged them. That'd be lynching and everybody knows lynching is bad) in the prison exercise yard AFTER they'd had a fair trial, so every prisoner can watch. We have to stop crime and drugs and protect our prison guards. That's just my arrogant assed opinon.:-D
