Getting into an accident out of town from your residense can be expensive. Some towns are wanting to bill non-residents for police/fire services at accident scenes. And they can be quite expensive.

Somebody was telling me about a family just moving into a house (not sure the municipality.) Been there a week or two and their house caught on fire. The fire department showed up but would not work on putting the fire out because the family didn't pay their neighborhood dues. Funny thing is, they never knew about the dues until the FD showed up. From what I was told they offered to pay something there on the scene but the FD refused. That sounds like a lawsuit to me, from the homeowner and insurance company.

That's stupid, If we pay the city taxes, we get what we pay for. Should we just fore-go all taxes and pay for only the stuff we need? Oh ya, I don't need hospital this month, soo I wouldn't pay my dues for that. You know, I don't think my house will catch on fire, so I wouldn't pay my dues for that.

I hope they sue the FD, the city and every firefighter on that scene for every penny that can squeeze from them, that's so wrong.....ohh it makes me wanna get a law degree and go to town!

I think all of the above is horrible.

When I lived in a National Park--Yosemite, ( and I know it is cold there--no it's 47 there tonite and 82 tomorrow.), it was something about if you were hiking or skiing in an area that was off-trail or limits, the helicopter might save you and then bill you and fine you.

I only hiked one time in an avalanche prone area,( a closed trail--rockslide potential) I was told afterward.

I don't think even rural fire dep'ts are that cruel or harsh.(Nothing was implied by that other than they don't have the funds cities do.) I know they have fundraisers and all. And I think the county helps them when they can. And most of the volunteers I know would never do something like that unless it was hopeless or endangering their lives. I can't imagine.:ohnoes:

I imagine the insurance company will have something to say about it! And possibly, if neither the realtor or previous owner told them about any fees, they could be partly to blame too??

If the town's emergency response units receive any kind of federal assistance then it should be cut off if they charge out of town people for any of those services.

This goes along the same lines of someone who all of a sudden has a difficulty paying property taxes ---say because of an inheritance----say it was a 400,000 dollar piece of property and then the gubment reposses it and turns it and makes 400k and the previous owner doesn't get a friggin' dime......that's just wrong.
