Longtime Pearl River County Circuit Clerk Vicki Hariel (D) is running for re-election, rumored to perhaps be her last term. She faces challenger Lisa Lee Albrittion (R), a former Justice Court clerk and wife of current State Senator, Republican Sid Albritton.
Anyone follow PRC politics? Will Hariel's name recognition and tenure overcome the fact that she is a Democrat in a now blood red Republican county, or will being Sid's wife and having an "R" behind her name be enough to topple the incumbant Hariel?
I bet on Hariel.

Well knowing Sid like I do (he lived down the street from me growing up and I graduated high school with him)....I'd vote for Charles Manson before I would Sidney. That's all I'm gonna say on the matter.

former Justice Court Clerk?
I LOVE to shop, and one of my favorite places is Apple's in Poplarville. A while back the owner told me her daughter was the Justice Court Clerk. Is that the same as the one now running for Circuit Clerk? Just curious.
Blue Dog, do you know anything about the sheriff's race in PR? I heard that the incumbent was beat by a wealthy opponent in the primaries. Who is the newcomer? Does he have competition in Nov?
I think I've gotten waaaay off topic . . . . . .sorry

David Allison beat out the incumbent, Joe Stuart, and the Chief of Picayune PD, Jim Luke, for the Republican nomination. Allison is expected to defeat Democrat Dan McNeil in the general.

What is Allison's background? Why did Stuart lose?

Well, Lisa Lee Albritton was an assistant clerk, I believe.
She is spending some dough on campaign signs, too.
Vicki must not be concerned, not a sign in sight..but with her name recognition she probably doesn't need much of anything.

Joe Stuart ran a low budget campaign, and had picked up baggage with the conditions in jail down there, and well rumors about being in with the bad guys were flying. Thus, Allison (owned gas stations, oil companies, RICH) spent the cash and it worked. Why we wants the job, though, is still puzzling to me.
This was a classic north PRC versus south PRC race...

David is a hard-nosed, hard-working businessman. I've represented him in the past. There's no question that he's better qualified than Joe Stuart; Sheriff Stuart has to be the nicest, least engaged law enforcement officer I've ever seen.

Well said on both accounts.

It just so happens that I know both Jim and David. Jim Luke is a damn good police officer and I believe he would have made a good sheriff as well. But when he met with the Sheriffs dept and basically said that he was going to fire anyone that did not or would not support his run for sheriff....well right then and there is what cost him the race. (in my opinion) David Allison is also a good man. I first met him when he was running a quick stop for Bill Stegall in Picayune. He came up from basically nothing. Hes a good man...a hard working man....and honest man...if he gets elected, I'm sure he'll do a excellent job for the citizens of Pearl River County. David is one helluva business man, and I think his background will be very beneficial to the smooth running of the Sheriffs Dept.

I've also known David since he worked for Bill Stegall....hard working and determined.
Judge Bustin, if you are reading this, you will like him if you ever have dealings with him. He is up-front with you and fair. He'll do a good job for the people of PR county.

I heard Allison will allow Joe Stuart to stay on as chief deputy, you know, the whole state retirement deal I guess.

Joe Stuart is a "good ole boy" and a good friend but I would not have voted for him to be sheriff...I just don't think he has what it takes. Jim Luke would have been a good sheriff but like Booshay said, he cooked his goose trying to force employees at the s.o. to vote for him. David Allison I have known since he was about 14 yoa...he comes from a good family and has worked hard all his life...he has butt loads of money and he has earned every cent of it...he hasn't been given anything on a silver platter. The store on Jackson Landing Road that Bill Stegall owned he bought from an uncle of mine...he took David in as a stock boy when David was barely 14...Bill took David under his wing and taught him well...David will do well as sheriff...he will make a good administrator..IF I still lived in P.R. Cnty, that is exactly who I would be voting for. Dan McNeil had enuf time at the s.o. IMO he doesn't deserve more time there...
As far a Vickie Harel, she knows the circuit clerk postion up, down and around and around. She has worked in that office for many, many years and learned from one of the best Peggy Staten..NEVER would I vote for any of the Albrittons....NEVER! Not even for dog catcher as bad as I know Picayune usually needs one.

Dan McNeil won't win, period. Aside from running Democrat, he perhaps had the worst reputation of aiding and abetting certain illegal personalities.
I doubt it was all that truthful, but I do remember he always garnered plenty of talk in that arena back when he was Sheriff.
Don't know much about either of the candidates. Was wondering how running a convenience store qualifies you for sheriff?

David worked with the auxiliary police force in Picayune for years...even while working his way up with his stores. He has always dealt with people from all walks of life. As I said, he will do a good job for the people.

Don't know much about either of the candidates. Was wondering how running a convenience store qualifies you for sheriff?Well like Cupcake said, he did serve on the police reserves for several years, so hes not really an outsider in that sense. The man went from running 1 store for someone else, to owning at least 10 stores in Picayune, Kiln, and all along the coast....not to mention that he owned Picayune Oil. David obviously knows how to run a business, how to manage people and money. All are good qualities that would help the Sheriffs Dept run smoothly.

There are alot of sheriff's who don't have a lot of L.E. training....after all, a sheriff is mostly an administrator anyway....few actually get out and do day to day "stuff." He can always choose to go to the acadamy after being elected and learn as he goes...many have done just that.
David will be an excellent administrator and just has a way with people and budgets...he could not have amassed his fortune had he not had good business sense. David is also not a hothead like some of the candidates were/are. I have never heard a bad word spoken about David. That says alot to me. McNeil lost my vote years ago when he got wrapped up into some really "seedy" things...I certainly would NOT vote for him.
OK, cool. No experience, no knowledge, laid back, well to do, everyone speaks well of him, can learn after elected. Sounds good to me.

I think this is precisely why she will win re-election. With that kind of experience, folks are usually willling to overlook political affiliation in such a non-partisan race.
Man, I don't know much about the Albrittons, but they don't seem to be so well liked?

My mom was from P.R. Cnty...I have alot of relatives there and was there alot as a child. After I married we lived there for well over 20 years... I have known the Albritton's all my life....I have never liked them. Mrs. Albritton (granny) lived behind my house, Larry Albritton and Sid lived about 1 1/2 block down the road...knowing what I know, I would never vote for any of them....I will leave it at that!
Vickie knows and is friends with alot of influential people, she has worked at the circuit clerks office so long she could do it with her eyes closed..I really don't think she will have a problem...no matter if she is democrat or republician.

I am a Republican, but will definitely be voting for Vicki Harriel. She has been in the office for years and years, and knows what's she's doing. I know some of the Albritton's, and am not very impressed.
As for Joe Stuart losing the election, I believe it was because he could never be found. Never took calls, returned calls, and such. David Allison will be an excellent sheriff. Along with his other attributes, he gives a lot to the community.
