After 32 years, George Dale was defeated in the August Democratic primary. Next Tuesday, Republican Mike Chaney and Democrat Gary Anderson will face one another -- whom are you inclined to vote for next Tuesday?

I see that Clarion Ledger endorsed Anderson this morning, citing Anderson's refusal to accept campaign contributions from insurance companies. By the same token, however, it is equally abhorrent to be backrolled by a group of trial lawyers who want an Insurance Commissioner in their back pocket. Cheney's contributions have been much more broad based, and I believe, he would bring a more balanced perspective to the office.
Oddly another, another Gannett paper, the Hattiesburg American endorsed Chaney last week, and has taken an opposite stand in the Auditor's race as well.

Anderson has accused Chaney of being in the pocket of Big Insurance. While it's obvious that Anderson will be a puppet of Big Legal (trial lawyers). Dicky Scruggs has poured about half a million into his campaign, while total contributions to Chaney's campaign from the insurance industry (with the vast majority coming from individual agents) is less than $50k.

My prediction is Anderson will not even get the votes he got against Tate Reeves four years ago. While it will not be quite the thumping Amy Tuck gave Barbara Blackmon four years ago in the Lt. Governor's race, I expect this ran to be in the neighborhood of 56-58 percent for Chaney.
