New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence.
In secret trials last week, the Army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted that an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012.
The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.
wow... they finally did it. this is going to be cool as f*ck on a tank, not so cool on a cop car...

Does the tank have to run over the clear pyramid with the blue ball it it to work??????
So what? Our guys don't have the stuff they need now as far as armor goes, from what I hear. So why should I care if they can make a tank disappear? It won't be where it's needed when it's needed there.
That's not to say that disappearing tanks aren't bad ass, mind you.

also, is this "invisibility" heavily armoured? can a .22 throw off the "invisibility".
when they turn it on will it make the "shhhhwooo" sound? When bullets hit it will it make waves appear in the invisibility?

im not so sure this is going to be helpful in the grand scheme of things

CB, they made some of the buildings "invisible" to sattelites on one of the projects that I was working on... Technology is cool!

I want to see one, wondering if it'll be completely invisible, or simply less visible?

If you're fairly close to a M1A1 Abrams main battle tank, whether it's "invisible" or not, you're gonna hear the 1500 hp turbine engine, it's 120mm main gun, or at the very least the .50 cal machinegun on the turret. With that said, I don't see where being "invisible" would be that much of an advantage at close ranges....500yds out or more, well yeah, then it would be very beneficial. Anyhoo....this technology was mentioned about a year or two ago on Discovery Channel.....still cool though.

Great tags on this thread. I'm sure those will come in handy when doing a search.

Tesla`s technology supposedly "disappeared" a battleship in 1948.
It`s still cool, though.

It's the Daily Mail, people.
That's like going to Oprah for science reporting.
