View Full Version : Pakistan Declares State of Emergency
Our country's leaders may have their problems, but at least we don't have to deal with THIS b.s (http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/11/04/pakistan/index.html).
<QUOTE><QUOTE><QUOTE>Musharraf declared a state of emergency ahead of a Supreme Court ruling on whether his recent re-election to the presidency was valid. Musharraf, also the military's leader, has already deployed troops, suspended the constitution and sacked the chief justice.</QUOTE>
...
<QUOTE>Since then, Pakistan has been in a state of political limbo while the Supreme Court tackled legal challenges filed by the opposition that question Musharraf's eligibility to hold office. Some speculated that a declaration of emergency is tied to rumors the court is planning to rule against Musharraf.</QUOTE></QUOTE></QUOTE>

And as Joe Biden and Ron Paul point out, Pakistan is the country filled with militant Islamist and nukes, not Iran.
Eye on wrong ball, perhaps?
Full of nukes and millitant Islamist? Seems we should all stand by Pres. Musharef. We need him to stay in power to keep the nukes in safe hands and the militants at bay. Iran is trying to get nukes which is not a good situation and I'm pretty sure that there might be a few (million) islamic millitants to go along with their compassionate president who is a great resource when it comes to the global war on terror. Just a guess.

I have it on good authority that Bush and Cheney are planning to use this same strategy to take on an unprecedented third term! Suspend the constitution and seal the Bush dynasty. The military and oil companies are already on board. Gov. coup combined with a shutdown of the oil/gas supply renders you helpless. There is nothing you can do. Surrender now. BUSH '08. Just when you thought he wouldn't be there to kick around any more. Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It'll never happen.

Have to admit that I haven't been able to get a handle on Pakistan's current crisis. Just seems kinda strange that when the Former PM returns, she's almost killed....now this. I smell an uprising - but can tell who would be the best person for the job. They all seem unstable to me. I mean, really, the President in retaliation to a challenge to his right to BE president suspends the constitution, has now arrested over half of the lawyers in the country, and has deployed troops against his people? Not really sure if he is the person to back or not. Still trying to "study-up" on the subject.

And why not? Bill Clinton is still responsible for everything too, right? All our woes really can be dumped totally on his doorstep if you listen to the neo-cons.

Amandah, here it is in a nutshell. Musharaf(?sp?) is the Saddam Hussein of Pakistan, but we like him. Follow me: Saddam Hussein took control of Iraq through force and established a 'democracy'. Iraqi's voted overwhelmingly in election after election to keep Sadam in power (something to the tune of 98%+ of the vote).
Now, Musharaf took over Pakistan through force and established a democracy. he was re-elected with 98% of the vote. He established a democracy, more-so than Hussein. His was an American model democracy. However, things always went his way. Not like in America, where the president doesn't have free reign to do whatever he wants.
Anyhow, old PM comes back to Pakistan to run in new election b/c, according to Pakistani new government, Musharaf is no longer eleigible to be President. Musharaf tries to go throught the democracy to get himself eligible to run, but it's a no go. Supreme court says no. Then everything that's happened is happening now. Musharaf puts on a face like it's radicals trying to take over the country and that's why he's doing it.
Personally, I say bring it on. Let's get some nukes into the hands of the terrorists. Let's have a full out, drag out, no-holds-barred nuclear and conventional war. Winners win, losers lose. I'm tired of all the talk. Let the arab countries try to erase isreal from the map. I want to see that fight. They've been talking shit for a thousand years. Time to put up or shut up.

Thanks for the background. That's bascially the gist of what I was figuring out too. However, I take the cynical concept of if our esteemed leaders are for a particular government - then it's probably the wrong one to be siding with. History has proven this in that part of the world time and again. You'd think we get smart enough to just let that part of the world alone. But NOOOO, gotta have that oil. Forget trying to find alternatives. That would be too easy.
But as to your other suggestions, CB - I'd prefer to keep the nuks out of EVERYONE's hands. It's apparent no one is smart enough to have that kinda power.

Screw Pakistan and their cheap knives! If the freaking stock market keeps dropping and the dollar falling, we'll need to declare a state of emergency here.

It's a great deterrent, though, amandah. They were used once and only once. I don't think they'll be used again.
I honestly believe if the US was hit with a terrorist nuclear attack, killing millions, we still wouldn't pull the trigger on a retalitory nuclear attack. Partly due to not having a defined target, and partly because I don't think any politician is willing to have that on their hands. We don't have leaders at the helm, we have politicians.
I'm just tired of the rhetoric and posing.
I want someone to ask Hillary/Obama what they're going to do about oil prices when they get in office. Everyone wants to blame Bush like he's got some sort of magic control over it. Lest they forget that in Carter's term, oil was this high or higher (adj for inflation).
I'm 100% for alternatives. I'm big into electric for cars and nuclear power for electricity. That's just how I feel we should go.

That's my personal belief too. Maybe the terrorist had the best plan after all - break us financially. Drag us into a war, commit our troops and money in the most unstable part of the world there is - and whatch us implode.

Yeah, that was their plan (the economics part of it). They've just been fortunate to have gotten an idiot to commit to chasing his tail in the middle east while his own country crumbles around him. They could not have planned something so great.
