Okay, this is from Britian, so it's a bit skewed. I don't necessarily agree with the conclusions the writer makes based on Fred's joke. I just want to know what this means:
Having entered the 2008 contest in September, more than six months after all his rivals, Mr Thompson, 65, has kept a light schedule, delivered rambling speeches and shown little fondness for the glad-handing and back-slapping that is the very stuff of US politics.
What is 'glad handing'?

'Glad handing' (http://www.allwords.com/word-glad-handing.html) is that pressing of the flesh and kissing of babies and all of that stuff which has to go along with a campaign.

Fred's history...has been for a few weeks now. At this point, it looks like Rudy, and that's a disaster. But I am convinced the GOPers are still looking...

I wouldn't say Fred's history, a bit too early to make any statement like that, he hasn't done anything large enough to kill his chances yet. If he doesn't start pushing though, he may as well pull his candidacy....

This country is as good as screwed! Our options are not good....not good at all.
It will come down to Clinton and Rudy. I really can't see much difference between the two.
We've got to hope for Ron Paul to jump ship and run Ind. Even if he stands no chance. Depressing...........................

Wow. If it's Clinton v. Rudy, I'd vote libertarian for the third straight presidential election.

Neither of the two "front runners" appeal to me. Hillary is too far left, Rudy is stuck in NYC and there's no other alternative to either at this point. :(

You know, I posted it on another thread, but it is worth repeating.
Ron Paul truly does have a great vision for this country. I'm a life long Republican. I've always voted that way b/c I held to more of their beliefs and takes on issues than I did with the Dems. Ron Paul is neither. He has a mind of his own, but he reflects the same opinions that myself and others hold. Finally someone with some sense! HE will have my vote and I will do all I can to help spread the word. I've already sent out a massive email with the link in it.

OK, I was jus told that if I voted for RP, it was as good as giving Hillary a vote b/c there's no chance he would win. They also said that RP thought we should get rid of the CIA, FBI, etc. Any truth to that one?

Right now, a vote for RP is a vote for RP. Once the primaries are over, if he doesnt' get the nomination, we're going to see if Dr. Paul is going to run as an independent or will just bow out.
Let's say that Paul doesn't get the nomination and decides to run as an independent. It seems that Ron Paul pulls from both conservative democrats and conservative republicans. I can see how people would assume that if you're voting for paul, you probably would have voted for the republican candidate.
However, at this point in time, Clinton and most other GOP candidates are all in the same league, IMO. It's a vote for the status quo, or a vote for change. I'm voting for Change.

That's true. At this point, it is a vote for him. Their opinion didn't sway me one way or another. I still love his ideas and will support him until the "(fluffy, overweight, obese, fat, or whatever you want to place here) lady" sings.

I've had several email me back with the same thing. Hell, until today, I didn't know much about him myself.

The "A vote for X is a vote for Y" is a great argument used by those in the establishment to keep you in the establishment.

I believe it is as well. Hopefully, and it seems as though it possibly is, enough people are finally waking up and going to get off their butts and take a look at the person and the issues rather than devoting their self to a party and its agenda.

from what i've found RP didn't say he would abolish the FBI CIA etc.. his point was that if you're putting billions into goverment programs to bring us all this security, and they don't do it, then fire them.
i forget the source but he said that of the thousands of FBI/CIA agents out there, only one of them thought it odd that there are hundreds of people wanting to learn how to fly planes but not land them...

Really, if Ron Paul does go Ind. on us, I don't believe he can win. I think he will suck up a number of GOP votes because many hate Rudy but I don't think it would affect the Demis much. The chunk of them get off to the last name Clinton.
I think the American voters are stuck.

If Paul does go ind in the race, we may face a Perot/Nader type result. But, it's important that these candidates are recieving a measureable amount of votes on the national scene.
If it comes down to Rudy and Clinton, one is almost as bad as the other. I can't bring myself to vote for either one. I'd rather vote for Shawn O'hara... and i'd do it, too.

i have to disagree.. while he may have a majority GOP'ers behind him, there are also ALOT of conservative Dems that agree with him as well.

Ron Paul intends to hold people acountable and cut out the bureaucratic waste and fat.
How's he going to do that when he has to work with Congress?

And there's the beauty of the checks and balance system...
Paul can state his positions on things all day long, as can Clinton and Rudy, but they still have to get congress to work it through and the SC to say it's okay...
which is why I'm really not TOO concerned if Clinton gets elected...

I'm not sure anymore that it really matters who the President is...and that we should be infinitely more concerned with who our representatives in Congress are...small ball if you will.

I think they both matter. President checks congress, congress checks president, sc checks both, etc. it's a great system.
But, I'm going to say that the President does matter, though... I'd PREFER that Clinton didn't get into office. She will ask congress for certain legislation, and I dont like the legislation she'd ask for.
Paul, on the other hand... I know he'll shut the government down... which is cool. I'd like to see that happen.
