No doubt...what happened to Thanksgiving??? Halloween stuff came down and Christmas stuff went up. I suppose the networks and retailers are catering to those that probably haven't the time or desire to give thanks for those jobs and people that make it possible for them to spend the money that they do on Christmas.:smt009

I agree that it is too early for Christmas stuff! I remember when it was so exciting becasue all of the decorations and Christmas stuff were all put out the day after Thanksgiving and we would all pile up into Grandpa's big old Cadillac and drive around and just look at everything... Now you see Christmas stuff out with the Halloween costumes... it just isn't right! :smt009

I refuse to do ANYTHING Christmasy before Thanksgiving. REFUSE!! There may not be anything left in the stores by the time I get there, but I'm not falling into the greedy consumer trap any more than I already have!!! I think if people actually stopped buying the Christmas stuff when it was put out so early the stores might get the message. Then again, probably not.

I get a little cranky about early decorating too. I have to admit--however--that I am a year-around Christmas shopper. Many years, I try to have my shopping done (once I even had it all wrapped) before Thanksgiving.
Now, before ya'll start jumping down my throat--hear me out...
It is a lot easier to give some real thought to a gift if you are open to buying it (and masterfully hiding it) when you have the idea. If I am out with someone and notice they really like something--I will sneak back and pick it up for them before I forget about it. Then, I am not scrounging around at bath and body works trying to "cross off another name on the durn list".
I have a lot more time to just enjoy the season rather than the stores...
...having said that...this year my move down here and subsequent unpacking will have me running around at the last minute.

I would shop year-round if it was possible. I'm just too unorganized. Plus I'd hate to pick up something for someone only to have them buy it for themselves a few months later, or have it come up in conversation and hear that they couldn't stand having one. I just keep a mental checklist.

Yeah, that has happened. Makes me cranky--but then they can take it back and enjoy those after Christmas bargains!!!

tv content guys are buying into the pressures of their advertisers to get people in the christmas shopping mood earlier and earlier every year.

There was a Salvation Army bellringer in front of Walgreen's tonight. Maybe she was collecting for Thanksgiving dinners, but I don't think so.

To bad retailers have lost the true meaning of christmas behind all the commericalization that they are doing to it. Maybe one day they will realize their mistake, but not while people are bleeding money to them

I heard "A Christmas Story" is supposed to be coming on soon, a little early this year? I assume everyone has seen that show? I have watched that every year since I was a wee lad

While driving to Prentiss on voting night for the annual Rotary and Lion's Club Pancake Supper at Country Fisherman b'f and I saw a house on 42 all decked out. Stunned me but I enjoyed it. Mother saw it and was mortified and lamented on how wrong it was. I just laughed and said I enjoyed it.
I have a feeling retailers rolled out the decorations to milk the $$$$season since economists are saying gas prices and the mortage mess up may diminish the normal sales.
Someone on tv was saying the average $$ amount spent on Christmas presents, etc, is $800 and that is being eaten up in gas price increases.
I was stunned though when I was in a store and Halloween decorations and Christmas decorations were both out.
I used to feel this way when swimsuits would come out in cold weather but that's retail for you. A season ahead.

We are in PA and of course we are driving around visiting and sightseeing..I have seen many houses already decorated for Christmas! I would imagine the folks are trying to get the decorations out before the first snowfall, which the last time I heard "may" be tonite or tomorrow. I have to wonder if they will then leave it up until spring thaw?
The last two or three years I have been a grinch and not decorated at my house..other than my norfolk pines but when I put up a big tree, it is always the weekend after thanksgiving. It then comes down a day or two at the most after Christmas.
