Just wondering when all of you put up your tree.
For the first time I will have a prelit artificial tree so I am good to go at any time. I notices last night that there are already some up in my neighborhood. I usually put mine up the weekend after Thanksgiving. But I am eager to decorate now. So I just wanted to get some feedback as to when you all decorate and put up your trees.

We have a fiber optic miniature tree and that is all we put up. We have not been big into Christmas for a long time, seeing as we normally don't buy gifts.

Usually just after Labor Day but I leave my yard and house decorations up all year. Those Dixie cup lights work great for pool parties too.

Usually the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year we may do it a little earlier since Butterball will be leaving around Thanksgiving and the way his job is going he may not be home until after Christmas. :(

when I get my house built I am just goin' to paint one on the wall. I'll put a fathead over it. when x-mas comes I'll just take the fat head and move it to another wall.
Family tradition has us putting our tree up Thanksgiving weekend but with three of the four kids grown, I don't have as much help and it's not as much fun. The one child still at home doesn't have much interest in helping. My goal this year is to get it up sometime between Thanksgiving weekend and when we leave town for college graduation.

At my parents' house we usually put it up the day after thanksgiving. Me & mom shop that morning, I go home & nap, then me, mom & dad go pick out a tree that afternoon and me and mom decorate it that night.
At my apt. I've got an artificial tree... I'm thinking of putting it up this weekend without any decorations just so that Sebastian can get used to it. I figure maybe he'll get his curiosity out of the way before I put the ornaments on...
I do have some small decorations already up at the apartment... but that's only because I have absolutely nowhere else to store them in the mean time!

We're planning on doing it Thanksgiving night so it will be up and going when my son wakes up the next day (he's really excited this year)

I will probably do it this weelend. I've got to get a tree though. Last year, my pre-lit lost a row of light. I nearly lost my mind trying to find the bulb that was out...So when I was loading the truck (that shrank as I loaded!) I gave it to Good will.
I have family coming this weekend--so we will probably decorate together.
"Decorating Day" is a holiday all its own in Chichiguita=land.

Have to add--that it feels really strange to think about decorating when the weather is so fine. By this time up north we have usaully seen first snow...today, I'm headed to the pool! :smt103

Weird feeling, isn't it? The last year that I lived in Hattiesburg, I went to the Christmas tree lot in shorts. There's not much better than a white Christmas. :)

I don't decorate nuthin' until Advent. May not put up a tree at all, since it's no fun to do by yourself and I'm still in such a mess. However, I discovered upon moving that I have WAY too many Christmas decorations, so a serious paring-down seems called for.

I remember growing up and laughing when the neighbors put theirs up on Thanksgiving Day and took it down on Christmas day....we didn't put ours up until the weekend before Christmas and kept it up through New Year's.
We now do it the weekend after Thanksgiving....I hope the next generation isn't putting it up the day after Halloweeen.

It is always after Thanksgiving. Sometimes it has been as late as a week before Christmas. We have moved twice during the holiday season. We always take it down either Christmas night or the next day. We leave for ski vacations usually the day after Christmas and I like to return to clean house.

I always do it the weekend after Thanksgiving. It takes so much time to decorate everything, I want to enjoy it for awhile. I ALWAYS take it all down before New Year's, though, I've heard it's bad luck to leave it up past that and I sure don't need any bad luck.

we generally start putting up the outside stuff shortly after thanksgiving. however, since my birthday is so close to Christmas (14th) we wait until that night or the next day to put up the tree so that i get a "separate birthday" with my family since everyone else combines my birthday with christmas.

Yall are gonna laugh but I put mine up Monday. I have some early Christmas parties for my Avon Biz so I wanted the house decorated. Plus my husband was off work for Veteran's Day so it seemed like a good time to get it done.

The tree goes up after Thanksgiving, like a day or two afterwards. My lights around my windows and door are still up from 3 years ago, I just plug them back up. I live far enough off the road that you can't tell that they're still up after Christmas. My icicle lights I take down after Christmas, I'll put them up about 2 weeks beforehand, and our manger scene.
Did I mention that my wife stands barefooted with a baby on her hip?

2) epiphany
family tradition. the tree has always come down on grandparents anniversary since the first year they were married. or so i have been told.

I wouldn't even bother with a tree if it wasn't for Reagan. Usually we have put one up the weekend after Thanksgiving but I really want to celebrate advent so this year we won't put one up until the week before Christmas.
I do want to get some yard decorations so those will go up as I get them. :)

Well I got my tree up today...
I still need to purchase some extra ornaments...
Some things in my life have no rhyme or reason to anyone other than me, Christmas decorations being one of those areas.
I have sloughed off putting up a tree for the last couple of years but I would normally put up decorations beginning around the first of December and one of my earlier records was leaving them up until April ....... May ....... and now I have some decorations that stay up year round.
I try to live everyday like Christmas and Saturday morning cartoons.
Eccentric is a minimal way of stating my life.

I digress, but . . .
I just saw one of those upside down Christmas trees the other day. Interesting! Do any MHers have one? Do you like it?
And I had a friend several years ago (Judge Rip Pritchard's daughter) who had a "half" tree. She hung it on her wall! It was very pretty and didn't take up much room in her duplex. It was a tree split in half from top to bottom. I haven't seen one since. Has anybody else seen one?
I've already seen several PINK trees in stores this season. What's up with that?
To answer the question, our tree goes up whenever my dear husband get tired enough of me nagging him to put it up, usually sometime the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I saw the 1/2 tree you mentioned and a corner tree in a JC Penney book at my grandmothers on Saturday.
I have seen several of the upside down trees and just saw one at Hobby Lobby I find them odd looking. I have the traditional trunk in the stand tree.

Catfish Wagon outside of Petal has an upside down Christmas tree. I normally don't like the way they look, but this one appears to be hanging from a rafter down into a wago - it looks almost like a vine. Pretty cool...
My youngest has wanted a pink tree for her room for the past 2 years - but I think they're ridiculously priced.

I'm torn about whether to put up a tree or not this year. I haven't the last four years since I haven't been "home" for Christmas, and I won't be this year either.
But I miss having a tree. Not exactly sure how I would get one home anyway, since I don't have a vehicle designed to haul a tree. But moving my Christmas stuff has made me miss having a tree. :smt086

Ours will go up over the Thanksgiving holiday and you'll never guess where...on our front porch! The story behind this is when we moved to Hub City our tree (fake of course) was too large for current house (down sized) and when we had our garage sale, put it up to get rid of it. It didn't sell and my daughter said, "well, Mom, just put it on the front porch and decorate it." We did just that and will be second year that our front porch as been the tree and wrapped boxes, etc. for decoration.

I'm sure my wife will probably put it up as soon as all the halloween decorations are in the attic.
We put ours up the day after Thanksgiving. My husband works offshore so he doesn't get to enjoy it but a few weeks. There have been a few years that I put it up before Turkey day depending on his work schedule.
This year we are living in our 39' camper while we're building our house.....so I have a little tiny table top tree I'll decorate. I can't wait for Christmas 09 when I'm in my house!!!! I'll probably have a tree in every room! :kekeke:

I love real Christmas trees. One of my best childhood memories is the whole family loading up in the pickup and going out into a pasture to cut down a tree. I haven't had one since getting married, and my husband thinks it's stupid to put a real tree in the house. Every year I've sworn that I would get one, but then I didn't because I would also have to get the stand, the decorations, etc. Last year we had a tiny 3' fake tree. NOT the same thing.
This year for Christmas my mother ordered a real, pre-decorated tree for us. It's supposed to be delivered at some point in the next 2 weeks or so. It was supposed to be a surprise, but she can never keep her mouth shut about gifts.
This year maybe I'll hit the after Christmas sales and get a stand and some decorations so next year I can put up a real tree myself. Time to start some traditions for our little one, after all.

My daughter wanted a Winnie the Pooh tree when she was 3 and we have added to it every year. She is 14 now and says she wants something new:cry: but NO WAY .....................I mean just who does she think Christmas trees are for ............her or me ???:-D
