You know those "toxic people". The ones who generally look at life in terms of "the glass is half empty". These people are negative in their thought process, constantly complaining about something, and trying to create drama. The term "look on the bright side" is completely foreign to them. I was thinking about this recently because of up coming family gatherings for the holidays, and other encounters I sometimes have with people like this. Do any of you have people in your family, or people you encounter on a daily basis like this? If so, how do you deal with them. Now everybody has off days, I'm talking about those that just suck the energy out of you with the negativity.

I know one personally, He genuinely believes that complaining about something is equivalent to doing something about it. He is a total downer and can always be trusted to find the worst side of any situation.

I used to be married to someone like that. It truly is difficult to deal with those sorts of people. All I can tell you is not to allow them to set the tone for your mood. I know it is difficult because I used to come in from work and tip toe around to see how he was going to be and then I knew how I needed to be...wrong answer. If we allow others to diminish our spirit, and these toxic people are great at that, then we are just as much to blame as they are.

Yes....I know people like this.....they lean on the fence at high school football games on Friday nights and try to tell me or their coach of choice what to do......The way I deal with them is that I don't deal with them.....Occasionally, if there is a break in the game, I'll quickly turn around and say "STFU, crackhead!" or something like that....but must of the time I'm just content with the fact that I actually have the ability to do something about most of the problems in my life, unlike Slappy McSlapdick who takes out all the frustrations of his wasted hopes and dreams on me every Friday......and goes back to being another alcoholic/crackhead/weed head/deadbeat dad or whatever the next day.....

I once had a supervisor who was all about himself...always boasting of his importance to the organization, telling us how we could not get along without his expertise. Well, we just went on about our business...being written up when we made him look bad, then turning around to see him take credit for the good things we did. He used the F-word when he wanted to sound really superior...with three other men on staff with the remaining seven being women. The upper echelon finally got tired of him and moved him to a broom-closet office in Jackson where he was reduced in position and pay. YIPPEE! I hear he's cowed down like a little puppy with the big-shots breathing down his neck. Couldn't happen to a better guy!

It's only your responsibility or downer to eat if you accept it.
As long as there are humans there will always be those that see the bad side of everything, everything is fkd up for them, there are only problems and no solutions, no alternative will ever be found, everything needs a defensive excuse, every excuse takes them 15 minutes to explain so they can rationalize it to you.
Just accept that there are those downer folks and they are looking for someone to listen to them and buy into it.
When they start up, just look and say uh-huh and KEEP ON TRUCKIN'!!!!!!!

Yeah, unfortunately I have some "toxic" family members! I try to avoid them. "Toxic" people can make your stress level go through the roof, if you let them!:smt118:ohnoes:
