DIRTY SANTA GAME RULES---What are they?

I need a refresher on the rules for DIRTY SANTA.

May have to head it up if I go to an event and if not someone else will.

All I remember is all the gifts are put on a table and every player draws a #.

#1 goes first and opens his/her gift.

#2 then is called and has a choice of either a wrapped gift or the already opened gift of #1.

Then here's why where I am not sure.:confused::confused::confused: Can #1 grab the gift of #2 or isn't there a space before that gift can be grabbed?

Anyway I think #1 goes to table.

And how many times can a gift can be grabbed before it is dead or unavailable? 2 if I remember right.

I do remember #1 gets to end the game by going last and picking.

I have been to nice, orderly Dirty Santas and Down and dirty ones where are all rules are thrown out the window because the women runnning it wanted what they wanted. I thought hair pulling would start--a company party. :laugh:

We usually have a little "rules" meeting before we start exchanging and discuss rules. I think #1 should go to the table or grab #2's gift. The deal is that it is retired after 3 steals.

I love to play "White Elephant" Dirty Santa. My tennis group did that before and it is FUNNY.

Yes, establish your rules first. I just reread your post and I've never played when #1 got to end it.

I think it goes until last number. #1 doesn't get to go again for good measure unless the last number steals #1's gift. :smt118

I once got a naked santa shower curtain at the party. I thought I had done SO well!!! I was very proud of my dirta santa prowess until I realized that NOone had really wanted the curtain anyway. I was about the only single person at the party and thought it was awesome. It was really cute until my mom saw it. oops.

I've been to a few where a gift can be stolen up to 5 times. To me, the more times it can be stolen makes it more fun because it's funny to watch everyone keep stealing the good gift. But it's always helpful when there are some gag gifts that someone is trying to get rid of.

One thing, make sure that everyone participating brings a gift. That may sound obvious, but I remember a ruined on where some girl thought she would play along but didn't think it was important for her to bring a gift. There was some confusion when there weren't enough gifts and it we finally figured out what happened. I guess the way to prevent that is to count the gifts and make sure it makes the numbers given out.

I played that once and highly disliked it. However, with white elephants, I can see it would be a lot of fun!

I played it before... I always hated being first though... I liked to be last so I could pick the best thing.:-D
