that is commonly misconstrued. They say he wanted illegals in Arkansas, because he worked with the Mexcian gov't to bring a consulate to Little Rock. The Real reason behind this was that he was trying to assist his states law enforcement with Spanish translaters and helping to alienate the one who were illegal, because a consolate helps bring legal aliens. Please see the Link to see where he stands on immigration and securing the borders. This should spell it out.

I'm not sure I can sit through Hannity and Colmes just to see Huckabee. I had a 24 hours virus yesterday and slept all day. I woke up to what sounded like a freaking cockfight. It was all four people on Hannity and Colmes screaming at each other at the same time. I cut the tv off.

Bad news for the Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee fans......
Latest polls:
Ex-NYer- 29.3%
Law & Order- 16.1%
Ex POW- 14.3%
Mormon dude- 13.6%
Huckleberry- 8.3%
Gyno- 4.3%
Of course, polls mean nothing. And there's a nice percentage that's undecided.

You know, I've always liked Huck. I admired him for losing a ton of weight (which I need to do!). I admire him because he loves music like a bunch of us do. I admire him because he's a man on spiritual conviction. I was/am "pulling for him" to some degree. But THEN...I see him on TV last night (Chris Matthews, I think)..and he comes off like an arrogant .... well, like Falwell or Robertson or one of those guys. I was very disappointed. I think he's getting poor image advice. It appears that, in order to try to "climb" a little, he's moving toward the persona of the rest of the group. Somebody needs to tell ALL these guys that SOMEONE NEEDS TO SE-PA-RATE FROM THE CROWD not blend in!

Win Iowa and the national polls will start changing overnight. And right now, Huckabee clearly has the momentum in Iowa. John Kerry was below 10 perecent nationally on the Democratic side 4 years ago as well, as I recall.

It did not make any sense, did it, Sister? He sounded like a cross between Donald Wildmon and Pat Buchanan, to be honest. Plus, for the first time I can remember, he was not "pleasant." I thought that was what Huck had going for him - a genuine nice guy.....he seemed to be trying to be "morally tough" - it just did not strike me positively.

Are you talking about his appearance on Tucker last night? I did not find him arrogant, but ready to defend himself. Everyone has to do it, and he will have to stand up a lot more now that he is making strides in Iowa. Romney and a lot of Republican candidates are starting to fear him and rightfully so.

"....Everyone has to do it...." you say? So that renders Huck just one of the "everyone." That was/is my read from his remarks. He DID seem "defen(sive)" to use your word. It did not wear well. Political candidates always "fear" everyone. It's part of the paranoia and ego that drives them. I still think Huck's a good, good guy. But I think his move to be "more like" the "everyone" of which you speak will hurt and not help.
Just MHO, mind you.

With all due respect I disagree. He was just defending himself, and I don't think he was irrational, egotistical, or rude to anyone. He still is the good, good guy. Just sometimes you can't be the "aww shucks" candidate, and you have to assert what you do or do not stand for when the other candidates who do show that behavior get down on you when you are sneaking up on them in the polls.

Dawg, I do understand that you disagree, and I appreciate the respectful manner in which you do. However, my point is this: What motivation would I, or anyone, have for supporting Huck if he begins to pick up the demeanor and rhetoric of the other folks in the race. In simple terms, what separates him from them? Until recently, what separated him was his even, warm demeanor, his openness. In the interview that I saw (evidently on Tucker and not on Chris Matthews), he was defensive and had his brow furrowed and lips puckered. Did not even look or sound like the man who had run to that point.
Here's what I think and "feel" - I'd love to see a Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee ticket. I think, in all honesty, they would get there behinds kicked "this time" in the election. But I think it would give many, many, many of us who care about this country and what happens to it "hope" that good, positive people can step up and lead a country. To get there, I want Huck to keep being "Huck" and not feel like - as you seem to espouse - that he has to "be like the rest of them" to get his point accross.
IF Huck is actually "gaining" on the other guys, I will dead flat ass guarantee you it is because of who he is and has been so far, NOT the defensive person he was in the interview we have discussed.
I respect your opinion, and I thank you for listening to mine.

I think in the long run we will cintinue to see the Huck we all know and love. I agree that is what has gotten him there. Hannity and Colmes both tried to get him in trouble with accusations which is expected considering Fox News is under Mr. Mayor's payroll and with Allen Colmes being the crazy liberal that he is. Huck weathered it, but he did get a little frustrated with them at times for not being able to answer each question.

Huck don't have to go on Hannity and Colmes - I am of the opinion tht the Fox News network is tremendously over-rated. If they were as important as they seem to think they are, the country would not be in the quandry about who to elect right now.

That's a very good question, dawg! I think if that were to happen, the GOPer's would look for someone from New York, California, Texas, Florida, or Ohio. But I have no idea who.
If Rudy gets the ticket lead, Haley Barbour will be his running mate....IMHO.

I can feel you on there, I have been writing to and talking with some very important politicians since the mid 90's . I have lived on the front lines and have seen it's effects throughout the nation. we have to secure our borders and work to expose those who are here illegally and and get them out. I trust Huck on all the issues, and i am just as confidant on his stance on immigration as I am about his take on abortion. there has been alot of dirt thrown out on him,due to his recent sucess but, none of these stories will prosper because this man doesn't change his position as the winds blow.

You know what really scares me though? Aside from the topic, I do appologize for wandering, but the price of gas. If it continues to go up, the economy will stop. I won't be able to go to work anymore...people won't be able to go to work anymore. Transportation will stop...that's very serious and very scary. I'm also concerned with the poisons found in food and children's toys. The cost of groceries scares me. I can't afford to eat some foods anymore. Insurance...I can't buy a house because paying 3000 a year for insurance is too much. Insurance companies and oil companies are the crooks and unfortunately...the govt keeps getting more money to let it go. The war - it's time to end. I was for it when it began, but it's turning into a joke. Too many people are getting in trouble for doing their jobs over there...it's bs...how about the border patrolmen(don't remember their names) who got in trouble for doing their jobs.

I worry about all those things on a daily basis as well. the fortunate thing about the money is Huck wants you to keep more of it. He wants a fair tax, to get rid of payroll taxes, do that you have money to spend on stuff you need. While the more money money you make you get taxed more, however the hourly wage working man still fells the issues with the economy at the pump when he goes to fill up for work. He feels it when he has to go and purchase food for his family. The war must be ended i agree but we cannot cut and run, because we will end up there again in the long run. We need to finish the job we should have during Gulf War 1. I totally understand the frustration you have with the unrightful charges of the border patrolmen. I have heard countless stories from the bp and dea agents who were told to refrain from doing their jobs due to a shoot out on the border. We have to stop being a politically correct nation when it comes down to protecting our borders and fighting wars and the media needs to stop being so UNamerican and start reporting all the good we are doing in the world after all who comes and bailed out Europe twice and has been a leader in the important issues of time when nobody else had the guts to. We need to remember who we are and stop worrying baout what others might think. Those who are in the minoity in this country who hate is so much need to get out and go where their ideas of moral relativism and tolerance of sacrilage iws accepted and if they feel like we shouldn;t fight the terrorists why don't they go try to live among them and see what the do to americans, or women ,or homosexuals, etc...

I completely agree with those statements. America is starting to look weak, what with all the rules being placed on the heads of the men at the frontlines...and if they do their jobs, they get in trouble. That's bullshit!
I think we do need to remember who we are and tell the rest of the world to STFU! When they need help, they come to America...when they get pissed because something is wrong, they come to America. Close the borders and open fire! (Ok...a little over the line, but for the most part...I believe it should happen).

I can tell you what I have read about Huckabee. He personally did promos for the NAIS. He is for it. He wants a nationwide smoking ban. He is very much for a government that nurses us like babies.
As governor, Huckabee used his influence to stop church discipline on Clinton during one of his affairs. That tells me as a Baptist preacher, he is a fake. He compares the plight of illegal aliens to that of slaves before Lincoln's War. If he gets elected, bend over, here it comes for AMNESTY! What a joke! The slaves did NOT CHOOSE to come here!

Securing our borders must be our top priority and has reached the level of a national emergency.
The Governor supports the $3 billion the Senate has voted for border security. This money will train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone planes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and put up 105 radar and camera towers. This money will turn “catch and release” into “catch and detain” of those entering illegally, and crack down on those who overstay their visas.
In this age of terror, immigration is not only an economic issue, but also a national security issue. Those caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.
The Governor opposes and will never allow amnesty. He opposed the amnesty President Bush and Senator McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer, and opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all.
The Governor opposes and will not tolerate sanctuaries for illegals. The federal government must crack down on rogue cities that willfully undermine our economy and national security.
The Governor opposes giving driver’s licenses to illegals and supports legislation to prevent states from doing so.
The Governor will stop punishing cities which try to enforce our laws and protect the economic well-being, physical safety, and quality of life of their citizens.
The Governor opposes and will not tolerate employers who hire illegals. They must be punished with fines and penalties so large that they will see it is not worth the risk.
The Governor opposes the economic integration of North America that would create open borders among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He will never yield one iota or one inch of our sovereignty.
The Governor will take our country back for those who belong here. No open borders, no amnesty, no sanctuary, no false Social Security numbers, no driver’s licenses for illegals. NAIS??? Clinton and the church??? I have refuted the immigration hits left and right..Here it is again. Do you have articles regarding these accusations? Moreover, Who's your candidate of choice?

Thanks for clearing that up about the borders and immigration. I found that online somewhere...I am for Ron Paul, and thought I would like Huck also until reading that he likens the illegals to slaves before the War of Northern Aggression. IF he felt that way, he is not right and should not be taken seriously. Thanks again for clearing that up. What about the NAIS? Do you specifically know that he is against it rather than for it? I cannot take anyone seriously who is for it.

I do not offend anyone here but obviously Ron Paul is my man for every reasons imaginable. However, I hate to say it but Huck would be my way distant second out of all the ones that are to be taken serious. I would really rather have Alan Keyes as my second but I think he is in it for the money. Huckabee is called 'tax hike Mike' in Arkansas by some. I actually voted for Keyes in 2000 in the Mississippi Primary. Coincidentally he came in 2nd behind Bush. The one thing Huck is good for is he isnt a member of the CFR, Trilateralist, or Bilderberger (as far as i know) but I fear it would change if he got in office, so therefore it is my sincere belief the only who will do what they say the are gonna do is Ron Paul, but Mike is not terrible. :)

And, I think your Party is beginning to hear ya'll. Problem is - methinks it might produce a convention result that no one likes, that will be fractuous to the GOP platform and, thus, will be left limping toward November, `08 with a candidate that is more compromise than competence, more of a truly political animal than the one Paul and (to a lesser extent) Huckabee's candidacies represent.
That's the danger of divisive politics - the division can bring the entire house down.

You could be right, Sue, but there are far more competent candidates in the Democrat race than Hillary. Being Senator one term and first lady doen't not make her competent to be President. Biden is competent if you use competency as the only yardstick.

How is raising taxes being 'fiscally conservative'? How is not going against the Federal Reserve being 'fiscally' conservative? Just wondering?
In Arkansas, the income tax when he took office was 1 percent for the poorest taxpayers and 7 percent for the richest, exactly where it stood when he left the statehouse 11 years later. But, in the interim, he doubled the standard deduction and the child care credit, repealed capital gains taxes for home sales, lowered the capital gains rate, expanded the homestead exemption and set up tax-free savings accounts for medical care and college tuition.
Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn't need it any longer.
He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.)
Doesn't sound like the evil Tax hike Mike everyone seems to be griping about.
hendrixfreak70
11-28-2007, 12:17 PM
I dont know.... I know several folks from Arkansas that wasn't happy with the tax situation. I know the stats say that all 50 states increased taxes but that doesnt make it ok to do it. Governors also have to answer to the state legislators... much like Congress and the Executive Branch. If Huckabee doesnt seriously assert the need for the gold standard to return or study any theory of Austrian School of Economics then IMO he has no grasp of fiscal responsibility. Coincidentally Ludwig Von Mises and F.A. Hayek warned of the impending economic disaster that is created by a Federal Reserve, fiat currency, and a graduated income tax. All of these notions are also planks of communism. Therefore by not advocating what Hayek, Mises, and Paul argue for the candidates are not doing enough. Also foreign policy, wow, where to start? Why is it that the paradigm has shifted in the Republican Party from small government and non-interventionalism to pro-war with everything that moves and spending money on maintaining an empire. Rdawg, I have no doubt that you consider yourself a conservative, it is obvious to me. However be advised that the conservatives now are not the conservatives of our Founding Fathers. We have been duped. I say we all return to the things that made this country great for a few years anyway, and that is the Constitution. Screw party loyalty, political correctness and expedience, and the communist lot that have infiltrated our political system.

I know several folks and am related to dozens more in the great state. there are a lot of positive comments and some not so positive. You sound like a smart kid. I have to be honest with you the Constitution means nothing if rogue judges define it. We are in the war on terror and we will take that war to the terrorists. Being a conservative doesn't mean being a republican, libertarian, or anything else. i am a republican yes but I am a Christian first, I look to the man who I trust to be the most socially conservative, and equally fiscally conservative. Taxes will get raised no matter who is in office. It's who does the best job in putting money back in the taxpayers disposal whether it be rebates or programs. Also why not invoke the name of James MAdison or Alexander Hamiliton.
hendrixfreak70
11-28-2007, 12:58 PM
I can invoke away.... just look throughout my posts. James Madison and Thomas Jefferson are my two favorite people from our Founding Fathers. I have studied the Federalist Papers, Constitution, and de Tocqueville extensively. I have fought in this war on terror and I am here to tell you that it isn't what it seems. If nothing else, it is an opportunity to erode our rights away via the Patriot Act and Military Commissions Act to name a few pieces of blatant legislation. 500 Billion dollars of our money going overseas to the highest bidder (in case of Haliburton no bid at all) for what? Fragile democracy 6500 miles away? 4,000 dead 30,000 wounded? Useless legislation aforementioned? For example James Madison once remarked 'If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.' Sound crazy to you?? Course because that is the excuse conspiracy theorists use, like me. However this man is the Father of the Constitution. He knew full well the dangers of an all too powerful government. And it is coming to fruition. I do applaud you being a Christian as I am too. However prophetically speaking bad things are going on and have been forever. But many things must come to pass and this endless cycle of demagoguery and smokescreening is expediting the situation.
As far as who will do the best to put money back into our pockets, come one.... Ron Paul's idea of the abolishment of the IRS, 16th Amendment (federal income tax) and the Federal Reserve or Mike Huckabee talking about lowering taxes?? Which one will put more money into your pockets?? By the way Ron Paul does't just talk it he walks it... look at his voting record about fiscal issues in Congress. I would post it here but chances are you wouldn't read it.

I am not sure what you're referring to. Was it when Ron Paul was about to slap McCain's hairpiece off of his head for being ignorant about history (WWII was not a product of isolationism, rather us sticking our nose into everything, hence Pearl Harbor, in actuality it was the opposite interventionalism that brought us WWII.), or was it when John "Manchurian Candidate" McCain called Ron an isolationist?? The real isolationist Rdawg are the ones that shut down trade with a country over something that happened 50 years ago. The real isolationist are the ones poor trillions of dollars into foreign countries only to decry the situation when they attack us. The real isolationist do not want dialogue with anyone they consider in ill-will. That is real isolationism and it differs contrastly from non-interventionalism. Meanwhile Huckabee wants to send Hillary to Mars, well don't we all?? However, men and women are forever being maimed in a far away country and all these asshats can do is tickle fight one another and make quirky comments that solve absolutely nothing. Not one time did I hear anyone come up with any solutions (except for Ron Paul, Fred Thompson but he is a CFR guy so nevermind what he says, and maybe Mike), they just attacked one another essentially over who was the most liberal.
I really do not have much of a problem with Huckabee but I think he is a Washington politician because he wants to get rid of the IRS, sounds familiar. Yet he doesnt take his ideas far enough because quite frankly this country is nearly beyond repair. We have communists on one side and Fascists on the other and the middle class is eroding. Time to wake up and get this country back to the Constitution. Ben Franklin once said those that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

I generally don't care to get involved in other candidates platforms because they are generally all the same, except when they try to steal Ron Paul's platform. I could go toe-to-toe about any one of the candidates but it is really irrelevant. To sum it up, they are all pro-war regardless of the outcome, big foreign policy spenders, ignoring the Constitution, man the list goes on. Huckabee is a Washington politician because he likes to steal ideas, he raised taxes 21 times in Arkansas. He couldn't cite one passage from the Constitution. He doesn't take his ideas far enough. McCain is over and out. What Ron Paul said about donations from Army officers is true. I am closely tied to many in the military and most don't want the same old, same old shat. The majority of military officers and enlisted will support Paul over McCain. Bank it.
But, as an aside, wasn't the gay General cute? The news today is that he was a Hillary/Cooper Anderson plant. Ron Paul would not rule out gays to operate as linguists, interpreters, analysts, and other important duties not related to battle unit (squad) cohesion, (like medical staff) something we are sorely lacking.
The USA is the only military in the world that has an issue with intelligent gays who keep it zipped on duty. Gays can be patriots, too.
I ain't gay but I know some gays and they are nice hard working people who don't even attempt to force their issues down anyones throat (I said a pun :kekeke:)

Well..the last few strongly contestly primary seasons the Iowa winner on both sides has gone on to win. In 2004, John Kerry won Iowa, while Howard Dean imploded, en route to the nomination. In 2000, George W. Bush won Iowa (lost New Hampshire to John McCain) en route to victory (Gore won on the Demo side over Bill Bradley).
In 1996, Bob Dole won Iowa (lost to Buchanan in New Hampshire) en route to the nomination.
I can't remember if Bill Clinton won in 1992 in Iowa or not. The 1988 primaries were the last time I know that there was a real deviation between the Iowa primary winner and the party nominee. On the Democratic side, Congressman Dick Gephard won the Iowa Caucus (he was from neighboring Missouri) and Bob Dole won on the Republican side with Pat Robertson coming in second. That year, George HW Bush and Michael Dukakis were the nominees.

Well I guess the election is over now. They don't take into consideration the Independents, Dems who have switched or are going to switch to vote for Paul, the 18 y/o demagraphic that didn't vote in the last primary, Lord the list goes on. Cite away at the polls because they are SO accurate and since they are then shouldn't everyone else stop campaigning because after all Iowa, one of 52 states (Afghanistan, and Iraq are the two newest) , has Huckabee in the lead. Pack it everyone it's over. How many candidates who have won Iowa have won the nomination?? I really don't know so someone post it here.

One additional quick reflect...native son Tom Harkin overwhelmingly defeated Clinton, Jerry Brown, Paul Tsongas, et al in the 1992 Iowa Caucus- apparently the other contenders conceded Iowa to Harkin and focused on New Hampshire that year.

So it is hit or miss with more hit in recent years? Thanks much.

The Rasmussen screening process (http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2008__1/2008_presidential_election/iowa/iowa_caucus_screening).
First, we ask about voting history and only include those who say they vote all of the time or most of the time.
Perfect example of what I am talking about. I read some place where 10% of the population are disaffected. I was one of those. I actually think that it is higher IMO. These polls don't take into account those who are newly able to vote. This goes for all the candidates, not just Ron Paul so you can not say now I am pulling one way or the other. In essence, many people who don't vote now have someone to vote for. I have never voted before and I know many people haven't that are going to now.
Second, we ask how closely the respondent has followed the Presidential debates and other campaign activities. Those following the campaign Very or Somewhat Closely are included
How is this relevant?? So the ones who dont follow closely are not included?? Wow, really scientific.
Third, we ask specifically about how likely each person was to participate in the caucus. Those who are Very or Somewhat Likely to participate are included in the final sample.
This is an important dependent variable. The campaigns of each candidate have the potential to reach voters on a weekly basis. So the ones who are not voting now are thrown out and likely not included in again with a phone call later. So the ones who may vote one particular way get ignored altogether.
We also looked at an even tighter screen by including by asking the following question… Many times, things come up that make it impossible for someone to participate in the caucuses. This year, the event will be held much closer to the holidays and winter weather is also a possibility. Are you certain that you will participate in the Iowa caucuses or is it possible that something might come up to prevent you from attending?
A good dependent variable. At least they acknowledge this variable!
As we examined each scenario, the results shifted modestly but the overall results remained quite consistent.
How can this be consistent when 3 out of the 4 mentioned variables are not fully integrated into the sampling?? This is precisely my point.
Thanks Fuzz for the posting. From here on out when you post something, I will read it and elaborate my opinions! I know I try to sound like a know-it-all and for that I apologize. I am just worried about this country and believe strongly unless we reel some of this corruption in, our Republic will fall. Roman empire???

He's a creationist who is running as a theocrat. Sorry, but that's not the kind of thing we are supposed to put up with in America.
If he were a Muslim who took a phone call from Allah at a political rally, I'm certain he would be lambasted. If he were a Scientologist who took a phone call from Xenu, I'm sure we would all roll our eyes and laugh.
But the above stunt, and all his ridiculous Christian pandering, gets rounds of applause and support threads like this one.
